    referees

I want to encourage young former players to become refs. It pays well, you determine your schedule and you get to be involved in the game.

YOU DO NOT DETERMINE YOUR SCHEDULE. You could have the most distinguished of playing backgrounds and you would still get a Jefferson v Robinson girls game an hour from where you live. The old dodgy guys still rule the roost and give themselves the best games even though they are well past it. This is sad but true, I know cause I have lived it and I have seen it happen to others.

The fact remains that many of our referees hold on to the "big games" and do not let the younger refs do them. For some reason the new refs are treated like low man on the totem pole and are sent out to do the games that are both furthest away and futile.
If they really want to bring in new blood, then they need to give up their age old practice of hogging the best games.

like that in any sport you referee!!! Have to earn your way to the top but I guess children now days don't understand paying your dues. You either love it or your don't do it. Your either good or your not. Some of the best times are the lower level games. Kids now days don't know what hard work is, let us hand you the best games, then it means nothing in the long run. EARN the BEST GAMES or get out.

The problem is in defining "earning" the best games. Do you earn it just because you have refereed a lot of games regardless of your performance, or can you earn it with good performances in fewer games?

THE HIGH SCHOOL REFS ARE THE WORST ! "FAT" OUT OF SHAP PEOPLE AND NON ATHLETIC PEOPLE THAT COULD NOT MAKE IT ON THE FIELD AS PLAYERS OR GUYS THAT GET INTO IT TO MAKE HIS LITTLE ONES THINK HE'S A SOCCER GURU  HIGH SCHOOL REFS ARE THE WORST "EVER" . AND THIS 3 REF AND WHISTLE THING IS THE WORST IDEA ANYONE HAS EVER COME UP WITH . JUST ASK AROUND , "NOBODY" LIKES IT . HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER IS GOING DOWN THE DRAIN . POOR REFING AND THEY CHARGE MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS LIKE THEY DO ADULTS AT MOST HIGH SCHOOLS AND WONDER WHY FANS DO NOT COME TO SOCCER GAMES
