    PK Rules??

When taking PK's after a tied match what is the rule about who kicks??
I thought you had to be on the field at the end of regulation?? Once you go through 10 kickers does it go to bench players or does the starters get to kick again?? What about goalies??

    Watching: ST.Thomas/Vista left many questions??

According to FIFA - only the 11 (including keeper) who finished the game can take the PK. No idea how FHSAA regulates this procedure.

After the 11 who goes next??? I saw 10 kick, never a goalie took any PK's then ST. Thomas went back to their starters to kick a second time??

Future reference, do you not go to the bench?? Do the starters re kick for round 2 ??? Shouldn't goalies have kicked??

Fhsaa rules let anyone kick. Even the first kiker can come from the bench. Lots of coaches don't know it though.

In FIFA game: all of the 11, incl. keeper, have to take PK. After this, if theere is a tie, they start over again. No one from the bench can participate.

How would that work in a state final or a playoff (single elimination) game?

I didn't say that I agree with the tie system......there should be a winner and a loser....but FHSAA states that it counts as a tie.....although in a state playoff game or tournament game, 1 team moves on and 1 team doesn't

In all soccer, the game is officially scored as a tie. But, the winner is the team that wins in PK's.....The score would look like this....

                      Team A --- 2
                      Team B --- 2 (winner in PKS 3-2)

The official score does not change to 5-4. It will remain 2-2.

newspapers will report the score as the winning team winning by a goal...for example, 0-0 tie in regulation will be reported as 1-0 win for PK winning team. BOTH teams are supposed to be credited w/ a tie. Often the winning team tries to report it as a win and not a tie, which it is....a tie.

... which it should be a win: Think about tournament final or state final where we have the champion after PK. Can you be a champion after a tie?

score remains tied at the end of the first sudden-victory overtime period, the teams
shall change ends of the field after a two-minute interval and play a second suddenvictory
                            overtime period.
                            (2) If a tie still exists following the second sudden-victory period, the head
coaches and team captains for both teams will meet with the officials at the halfway
line to review the procedure for penalty kicks as follows:
                            (a) The referee will choose the goal at which all of the kicks from the penalty line
                            will be taken.
                            (b) Each coach will select any five players, including the goalkeeper, on or off the
field (except those who may have been disqualified) to take the penalty kicks.
                            (c) A coin toss will be held as in NFHS Rule 5-2-2(e)(2). The team winning the
toss will have the choice of kicking first or second.
                            (d) Teams will alternate kickers. There is no follow-up on the kick.
                            (e) The defending team may change the goalkeeper prior to each penalty kick.
                            (f) Following five kicks for each team, the team scoring the greatest number of
these kicks will be declared the winner.
                            (g) Add one goal to the winning team score and credit the team with a victory. An
asterisk[*] may be placed by the team advancing to indicate the advancement was the
                            result of a tie-breaker system.
                            (3) If the score remains tied after each team has had five penalty kicks:
                            (a) Each coach will select five different players than the first five who already
have kicked to take the kicks in a sudden victory situation, wherein if one team scores
and the other team does not score, the game is ended without more kicks being taken.
If a team has fewer than 10 available players at the end of the first set of kicks from
the penalty mark due to either injuries or disqualification, the coach must use all players
who have not participated in the first five kicks. The coach may choose additional
players from the first five kickers to ensure that five different players participate in the
                            second set of kicks.
                            (b) If the score remains tied, continue the sudden victory kicks with the coach
selecting any five players to take the next set of alternating kicks. If a tie remains,
                            repeat s.1006.06(3)(a).
                            (5) The Misconduct Procedure as listed on page 76 in the NFHS Rules Book shall
be in effect during the penalty kick phase of overtime.
