    Goalkeeper statistics

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to compile stats for a goalkeeper. I have the minutes, goals allowed, shut outs but I do not know how to get the GAA. I would appreciate any help as my daughter's coach did not put any stats for their team in the paper. Thank you in advance :)

    You need 3 things:

    1. Total number of minutes played (in this example I used 1500)
    2. Total number of goals allowed (in this example I used 10)
    3. standard length of a game (in this example, 80 minutes is standard in HS)

So, take the number of minutes played, (let's say 1500), and divided by total number of goals allowed. (let's say 10). So, 1500/10 = 150 minutes. So, your daughter lets in 1 goal every 150 minutes. Now divide 150 by the length of a game (80 min)....this will give us the GAA. So, one goal every 150 minutes / 80 minutes per game = 1.875 GAA.

You should be able to substitute your daughters numbers in the proper blanks to get your GAA.

CORRECTION: All is right except the last step.....it should be 80/150 = 0.533 GAA

Since your daughter allows 1 goal every 150 minutes, and a standard game has 80 minutes. Your daughter will allow in approximately 1 goal every other game. So a GAA of 0.533 or half a goal a game makes sense.

I liked the formula much better before the correction was added lol! Thank you so much for the information, I really appreciate it :)

A low GAA is better. The best you can have is a 0.00.

Why, you want a low GAA?

Yes, I know a lower GAA is better. What I was saying is that in my case (for my daughter) it worked out better without the correction. (It was not a good soccer season) lol. But I thank you for the help as it's nice to be able to figure it out since her coach couldn't be bothered to enter stats for anyone on the team.

The best thing to do is what I did for my son. I kept his stats from day one, freshman year. That way you know they are correct also. Get her a good trainer, it will make a huge difference for the next season.

Does it not matter how many shots she defended in total? Allowing .533 goals per game doesn't mean much if her defense is so good that her opponents only get 1-2 shots on goal per game. On the other hand, if she defends 20 shots on goal per game and only allows .533, that's a much bigger deal, no?
