Many good and positive things can happen when caring people put forth effort to help with a worthy cause. I ask that you please take a moment of your time to say a small prayer for this young man. The article provides information to those who would like to help out financially. Thank you and may God Bless all of you and your families.

    Respectfully,

Stephen Lorenc - Head Soccer Coach

Mr. Lorenc- I just read about your player and want you to know that he is in my thoughts and prayers. I also pray for you as his coach and probably mentor and his family. May God bless the player, the family, you and your soccer team.

Coconut Creek - For the first time in weeks, Juan David Becerra jogged off a soccer field.

The Monarch senior attended his first game since suffering a stroke Jan. 7 and started the match by taking the ceremonial first kick in his team's final regular-season match against American Heritage-Delray.

The idea to let Becerra begin the match came from Heritage-Delray coach Alvin James.

"When he made the suggestion I thought it was a great idea," said Monarch coach Stephen Lorenc, who was surprised when Becerra was able to jog off the field. "He was barely able to walk the last time he was here, so I was happy to see him do that.

"Juan lives for this game, it's his passion and his spirits are going to be picked up just for that," Lorenc said.

Becerra, who is still having difficulty talking and forming complete sentences, said he was upset that he couldn't play, but overall he's feeling good. He hasn't attended classes yet.

His teammates seemed to feed off his presence and played the defending Class 2A champs to a 1-1 tie.

"It's good to see him out here walking and talking," senior Kevin Concha said. "Hopefully he can come out to the rest of the games because that just means he's getting better. As long as he's not in a sick bed or at the hospital he can come out. It was special to see."

"It was emotional," junior Daniel Mendes added.
