I think the college coaches are smart enough to identify good players by their play on the field. To suggest that some trash talking by supporters of a couple of teams on a soccer discussion board would affect their decisions about some idividual player's ability insults the intelligence and competence of those coaches.
I do agree that the character of players is important, but that is something that can be assessed by watching them play. How they behave under the pressure of a close game, do they resort to dangerous and illegal play when tired or frustrated, do they yack at the refs when called for something or do they just get back to playing their best soccer, are all valid measurements of the character of individual players. College coaches that make decisions based on an an anonymous message board are not ones a parent would want their kids playing for anyway.
Very good. You are right to a point. First, that was a college coach and an old friend that posted it. He was staying at our house last night and is on a plane back right now. Thank you to all of you that trashed his post because I won the bet. I figured a respected coach from a Big East school would get trashed if posted something that was real. By the way, he didn't register because he didn't want to deal with all the hassles that come from IDing yourself at a tournament. Disney and the Nike Friendlies are the only places where you can register and watch in relative peace and quiet.
The best part is that I can bust his b*lls now for being a retard, so thank you.
As for looking at message boards. Let's put it this way. He will only use the atmosphere surrounding a team (club or high school) as a tie breaker if he has two or three guys rated dead even. And the player from a suspect atmosphere would have a chance to anwer questions. Good answers - no problem. Wrong answers - see you later. So yes, they do check up on some these sites when they need to but it usually the young assistants that do this type of background check.
How do you equate the actions of a couple of posters as "the atmohspere surrounding a team"? Some loudmouth JV player gets on here and it affects the decision process of a coaching staff. With all due respect, unless the coach can put the post in context it is an ineffective decision tool. I agree the "retard" poster was immature and it was a bascally worthless post. Does a college coach now look at one of the Jesuit seniors differently because of that post? I guess I had a higher opinion of college coaches than that, I didn't think it would come into play. Now the conduct of the parents during a game, etc. could be interpreted as the team "atmosphere", but an anonymous internet discussion board shouldn't be.
Fortunately, I haven't declared what team in the tournament I support. Would the coach hold it against me if I had?
I think it only matters if the kid's are rated even and he does say that he give the kid a chance by asking about it so the right answers to questions would alter it but the wrong answers would be a problem. So I think you're reading too much into it. But if I was a coach and I see stuff like this, i couldn't just ignore it because there are plenty of other good players from teams without this type of cr*p.
I'll the bet real "retard" that ripped the coach's post, which made a lot of sense by the way, would be a fine addition (parent or player) to any program.
I've read the Fen Bch/Jesuit stuff and each is making a point. You dismiss it as "sour grapes", but, if there is actually something to a host team "fixing" the tournament to give themselves an unfair advantage, is that not a valid point to discuss on a soccer discussion board? There is compelling evidence (or a whole lot of interesting coincidences that all just "happened " to break in Jesuit's favor). If that is the case, in your mind, it would be better to let them get away with it rather than investigate or discuss? That isn't dignity, it is cowardice.
If Jesuit can show each and every one of the "strange coincidences" were legit, then don't they deserve to plead their case?
Agreed, it could be done in a more civil manner, but isn't this what a discussion board is for? Why would a college coach hold it against a player that happens to play for one of these teams, one of the two is justified in the points being made. It doesn't make much sense to me to hold it against the players on both teams.
Listen up Jesuit fan! Maybe people wouldn't pick on your team so much if your coach would play some good teams. He has a chance to schedule tough teams but he is afraid he would lose. Jesuit has a great soccer program and needs to get rid of their coach, this guy does a great disservice to his players by not putting them in tough games. If Jesuit is as good as they say they are playing in 5A now, they should schedule games with Gaither, Land O'Lakes, Tampa Prep, Countryside and other teams ranked in the top of their class. This tournament shows why you and your coach get no respect, you must earn it and you haven't. Play some teams that are good instead of a cake walk to the finals. If you play tough teams during the year maybe you would not get your b*** kicked every year when region's and State's come around.
Jesuit already beat Gaither in the Land O' Lakes preseason tournament. They beat FB who beat Tampa Prep decisively... they'll most likely meet LOL in the state semis.

win and lose with dignity and if there are points of contention then debate with them dignity - as you put it very well - in a civil manner. "Retard" and "f*ck off" and all of the other name calling falls into the "stuf like this" category.

Why do you f king people go to this tournament, Just to bitch afterwards GET A LIFE AND GET A JOB
good luck lando lakes, represent for pasco county and win the tournament so you can shut every one up, show them how good u really are.
pasco fan
First, LOL have to get by Gaither. I predict LOL loses to Gaither 2-0.
i dont think so, LOL is strong at every position and they have depth, which alot of teams dont have. i predict LOL 3 gaither 1.
pasco fan
"Pasco fan" Riiiiiiiiight! ...and I'm the Easter Bunny
wasnt 3-1 but they won in Pks..told you LOL was better, and yea i am a pasco high fan
Winning on PKs is based on luck. The better team does not always win on PKs. So to say that LOL won on PKs is a better team is ignorant. Gaither also played with 10 men the entire second half. So, if LOL is better, they should have scored a bunch of goals in the second half, but didn't. If Gaither had all 11 players, they would have held on their 1-0 lead and won.
In the last 6 yrs. LOL has played Gaither 5 times in the regular season. LOL is 4-1 overall. Last yr LOL beat Gaither 2-1 in the same semi final.
Regardless of the number of players, LOL outplayed Gaither.
Gaither scored on a counter attack against the run of play. It was a good goal on a defensive breakdown. LOL's goal was a great half volley by EL.
LOL hit the crossbar and had a goal called back for offsides that was not offside.
Honestly, I think that Gaither are a better team this yr than last yr. However, LOL has more talent and depth than Gaither has.
I look forward to playing them next yr. We have always had good games.
We respect their coach and their players.

Jesuit fan, pre-season means nothing and you would have lost to FB if you had played AHP the day before, but you wouldn't have played them anyway because you wouldn't have beaten them like Tampa Prep did, enjoy yur fluke victory, everyone else in the state knows its a joke and that you're not even the top team in your county

Let's not bring history into the picture because it's irrelevant. Gaither has a different team this year. I'm sure LOL has a different team as well. I disagree that LOL outplayed Gaither. If the Gaither player did not get carded for using the "f" word, the outcome might have been different. I thought it was a pretty even game with both teams attacking and defending well, and both teams had their moments. That was why the score was 0-0 at the half. Things obviously changed when you have 11 vs 10, but Gaither still managed to score being down 1 player. It might be a different outcome if they meet again soon in State.
Actually both teams graduated 3 starters from last yr. This yr both teams have 3 key sr.'s. Next yr will be another yr and Gaither will have another chance.
Gaither is 6A and LOL is 5A, they will not meet in states, hopefully we will meet Jesuit in the Final Four.

Duh. What was I thinking? You are absolutely right that Gaither (6A) will not meet LOL (5A) in State. Good luck. Hopefully you'll get to whoop Jesuit's butt in State!!! Does anybody like Jesuit? ahhh, not!

They played Melbourne in the previous game. Melbourne's play reflected their record (15-1, only losing 1 - 0 to MI). Sorry you guys had trouble with Sickles (5-6-4) before facing Tampa Prep.
For your information
FHSAA.org records - Since 1987, Jesuit Soccer has:
6 State Championships ('87,'95,'97,'98,'99, 01')
3 Runner-up ('88, 96, '00)
5 Final Four appearances ('87,'91,'92,'06,'07)
In the last 20 years, Jesuit has made it to the "Final 4" 14 times. Add one National Championship. That's called a history of success. How does your school's record compare?
i respect jesuit, and i know quite a few kids on the team, but they havent had many difficult games in the season besides manatee, melbourne, and fb. other than those games they have had a walk
