Crossfire Premier (WA) being sued for sexual harassment

As much as we like to think the local youth soccer scene is a shltshow, far more interesting things are happening up I-5, where a female former coach at Crossfire Premier (one Justi Baumgardt) is in the process of filing a lawsuit against XF for sexual harassment. If the allegations are true (and there's always that if, as I would expect XF to deny it if they plan to fight this), it's fairly gross.

A copy of the summons (the case has not been formerly filed yet, it's in the pre-filing stage) is here: https://www.filemail.com/d/rfgmietcyzdoegv

In addition to that, Ms. Baumgardt apparently filed a "SafeSport" complaint about XF director Bernie James and another male coach at the club, which got them momentarily suspended from their duties. They have been returned to duty pending the investigation but are apparently not allowed to be around players without a chaperone.

One local note--the complaint alleges that Baumgardt was passed over for promotion to girls' ECNL director in February of this year, when XF instead hired a male coach from outside the club. That coach, of course, is Kevin Legg. He's not mentioned by name in the complaint, nor is he accused of any misconduct, as all of the alleged abuses occurred prior to his hire, but he is alluded to.

The allegations, if true, probably would mean the end of Bernie James, who is the godfather of the Puget sound youth soccer scene. He is, if nothing else, a brash, old school iconoclast, the sort who doesn't suffer fools gladly and demands excellence. (In other words, a five-alarm load-bearing a55hole). There really isn't any local analog to James here in Portland. Whether he is the sort who would engage the sort of frathouse behavior alleged in the complaint, especially in front of minors (male or female), I do not know. And Crossfire supporters in the WA forum have been busy giving Baumgardt the Amber Heard treatment.

to be fair, if Legg is not involved or mentioned in the lawsuit, why mention him here. KL isn't well liked in PDX but come on, this has nothing to do with him...

To be fair it's only with regard to context and the basis of her entire claim, she was passed over for a job by a lesser qualified candidate (from her perspective/opinion) which coincidentally happened to be KL...no drama just facts.

So she was ok with her treatment until she didn't get the job?

Generally, "why did you put up with it until then" is not a valid defense to a sexual harassment claim.

The basis of her claim also includes a whole lot of (alleged) harassing conduct unrelated to this. But "hostile work environment" claims and "unequal treatment" claims often go together; the sort of workplace where it's acceptable to talk about the bodies of the women there, tend also to have rather obvious glass ceilings.

Again, alleged; I have no idea of any of this is true, nor any opinion of the merits of her vs Legg as a coach. Given Legg's generally-successful tenure with CU down here (and prior stint with XF), she might have a hard time arguing that she was unfairly passed over. But the hostile work environment claims, if she can prove them, would be open-and-shut.

Just a thought but with Westside and Capital leaving the alliance maybe CrossFire could replace them as CrossFire Timbers. What a lineup of leadership that would be between the Timbers, Eastside and CrossFire.

Given that this is a Seattle club we're talking about, that would go over well.

Funny they have all been successful in promoting the women's games of soccer. Thorns the best team in the world, Crossfire ECNL one of the best in country, Eastside has made some progress in girls soccer. Yet they are all ....... Can they be both ?

What did I just read? Thorns the "best team in the world?" They aren't even the best team in the NWSL by every metric - record, national team players, attendance...come ON. Crossfire ECNL "one of the best in the country?" When? For like 5 minutes in 2019? I'll give you "Eastside has made some progress in girls soccer" because it's such a vague and meaningless statement. But honestly, this is the biggest crock of **** I've seen on this page in a while...

Everyone can agree Washington Soccer has way more drama then Oregon. I almost feel like moving there.
