In addition, I doubt that they are 'looking' at any of these kids to field the next Olympic team. Its like saying that they look at kids in AAU to put in the next Olympic basketball team.

I cant disagree too much

However, I will not be sending his brother through it.

Post something about anythng and the loudest reponses come from the naysayers that didn't make it. They will anonymously say they did but if they were honest they would admit their angers.
ODP is great training if you are looking for it. Chances are your child does not have access to many quality coaches but if they do then maybe you won't benefit from it. Otherwise most people do. If you want your summers off then stay away. It's like sending your kids to a quality soccer camp for less money. YUes there are scosts but much less than going away to camp, which is what you will do if you make it. The coaches are usually pretty decent and the calibre of player is better than average.
If you make national team player, and yes florida kids do make this, then you have a very good shot at making the "Olympic" pool. Don't let anyone fool you as the National coaches at the higher levels are the Olympic coaches.

Unfortunately for ODP and its supporters, they were not invited to help with the re-tooling. They were left to continue adding shiny new paint to that same old car. ODP will continue to take a major hits from ages 14 and up as the academy system grows and adapts. When the academies go official with their Pre-Academy it will be even worse for ODP.

In case you have not noticed, no one cares about girls soccer at the national level. They have ODP because they have to, but very little time and $$ are going towards this side !!

Oh yeah, and my daughter made some of her closest friends now through playing in ODP and is attending college with a few of them, on a soccer scholarship. I say give it a try, but be open minded.

Enjoy college and yes ODP at Regional level gives girls big advantage, but that is small percentage of girls playing and going to college.
Glad your kid had fun, but does not change facts that girls at national level do not get close to what the boys get and never will ( even though they are ranked higher nationally )

Does ODP stand for "Olympic Development team"?
If this is the case, can you name a Florida soccer player representing US in the Olympic games in the last 8 years?
I remember ODP being promoted long time ago as the way to win the 2006 World Wide Cup and the 208 Olympics.

Odp
I think the key point is ODP has the word development in it and it is basically a trials format vice a development format with development meaning a 1 week camp. You can go to a one week camp at a good college with college coaches which is cheaper and probably provides better development.

this is absolutely false.. college camps are nothing more than a summer camp with a little soccer thrown in... ODP is all soccer and the competition is much better. who knows what the future is but your statement above is wrong...
