US Wasted Months Before Preparing For Pandemic
WASHINGTON - As the first alarms sounded in early January that an outbreak of a novel coronavirus in China might ignite a global pandemic, the Trump administration squandered nearly two months that could have been used to bolster the federal stockpile of critically needed medical supplies and equipment.
A review of federal purchasing contracts by The Associated Press shows federal agencies waited until mid-March to begin placing bulk orders of N95 respirator masks, mechanical ventilators and other equipment needed by front-line health care workers.

Report: Pentagon Knew Of Possible Coronavirus Threat For Years https://www.npr.org/2020/04/05/82769...s?sc=18&f=1001
The Pentagon was aware of the likelihood of a pandemic brought on by a novel coronavirus years ago, predicting with startling accuracy shortages of masks, hospital beds and ventilators that could occur in an outbreak, according to a 2017 internal document reported by The Nation.
The 103-page document — which the magazine describes as an update to an earlier Defense Department pandemic influenza response plan — cites a novel respiratory illness as the "most likely and significant threat" in a pandemic situation.
The documents also warns that shortages of masks and ventilators would have a "significant impact on the availability of the global workforce."
"The intelligence community and the military were well aware of what could, and unfortunately, did happen" said Nation reporter Ken Klippenstein in an interview with NPR's All Things Considered

We learned today that Trump didn't start making orders for the stockpile until March 15. He could have started months ago. Like Obama did.
Looks like you missed this:
The strategy worked well during the response to Ebola in 2014 and 2015, according to a 2016 HHS strategy plan, which noted that "the CDC developed an Ebola protective equipment "calculator tool" to work with treatment centers and hospitals to assess their ongoing needs."
"For COVID, this [rapid assessment period] would have been late December or early January of this year," Lurie said. But the ramp-up and acquisition of masks never happened.

Will you idol worshipers stop it already? The administration did nothing until March 15th to order supplies. End of story. Or maybe you want to blame Lincoln and Washington too? Pathetic.

The real "Trump Derangement Syndrome" on full display even on little ol Massaschusetts Talking Soccer. He has never done anything wrong. Even when he is blatantly wrong, he is not wrong and it's Obama's (or Cuomo's, or Pelosi's, or China's, or Iran's fault, etc, etc). The blind religious-strength devotion to this guy is the real sickness. Incomprensible.
As a side note, Trump is seeking and touting the medical expertise of his trade manager instead of his world-class medical experts.

It's a federal responsibility to prepare for and monitor infectious disease, and to develop and apply resources as necessary. It appears that we have been underprepared for many years, but only DJT cut resources and decided to ignore the threat and hold rallies while the crisis grew. It's not his fault that he lacks the intellect to understand the science and the numbers that foretold the disaster; it's our fault for choosing him.

And then, if one state is well prepared but its next door neighbor is not, the pandemic will magically not cross state lines and create chaos in any neighboring states.

I am not a DJT supporter, but I do defend against hypocrisy. He is simply not as horrible as the lunatic left wants him to be. Yes, he screwed up here. Just like most leaders in every other state and country around the globe. This is an unprecedented event, and the first reaction of most leaders was to maintain a sense of normalcy and deny it, then downplay it, then panic.
Trying to convince the world it's all Trumps fault to validate your feels from 2016 is getting tired. Yes, I know you are tired from trump... blah, blah, blah. but remember your own words: it's our fault for choosing him, and he is exact same (idiot) president that he was as an (idiot) candidate. We are responsible so stop crying to the clouds on TS.
Let's get back to talking about soccer - My kid hopped a fence and is shooting at the turf right now. #IvanDrago
