The WH and Senate judiciary committee (GOP controlled) told the FBI what they could and could not investigate. This isn't even a case of a woman accusing him of something as she can't recall the incident, but witnesses telling the same story of misconduct. There's also a question of him lying under Congressional oath.

candidates for all sorts of lifetime government jobs, from Supreme Court justices to FBI agents themselves.

Once upon a time when I was a teen, two FBI agents came to my family home. Seems the child of a former neighbor (family had moved a decade-ish before) applied to FBI. So they were asking about my parents impressions of him.

Kid was fourteen or fifteen when they had moved away ....but that kind of job they clearly sought a big background picture.

I'm not saying this at all...you are the "con" we all know this, stop spreading BS....your analogy for what happened to you when you were a "teen" is a poor one. A background check is standard procedure for any company or organization....they can go back into your history at birth if the organization wants too....they were doing a background check as you said...not investigating a crime.

Usually when a crime is committed across multiple states than the matter...any matter becomes a federal matter, so FBI. If a crime is committed in a single state it is a local issue.

Many of those witnesses tried to contact the FBI themselves because they felt strongly enough that it should be known. All they got was radio silence because Trump and McConnell made sure of it. The entire investigation was also incredibly short. Why? The GOP was afraid they might lose more seats in the 2018 elections so they bum rushed Kavanaugh through. There was no real hurry.

Remember the good old days when SCOTUS nominees were rejected for smoking pot or not paying the nanny tax? But sexual harassment (Thomas) and sexual misconduct is A-OK!

This all came about thanks to McConnell denying Merick Garland a hearing because "the voters should decide" (nearly 6 months before the election) but then he does the same thing with Kavanaugh's nomination (one month before the election).
