I don’t see why this would be considered sad? They were not selected to make the trip to Toronto by the first team and are still eligible to play for the U19’s. Gives the kids a chance to get game time. What is wrong with that?

Seriously? Why did they do that to him? The Revs stupidity is beyond comprehension.

Talk to Lie Guy because he sure thought it was disparaging.

They don’t belong on the first team anyway so it makes perfect sense to me.

That makes no sense. They have no need to bully him out of the club. They can just cut him if they want him gone.

It's sad because they've signed "pro" contracts which would imply their "development" has completed, at least within the Academy. It's also sad because the Revs dont have a USL team where they should continue their development, and where the best 15 and 16 year old players should be.

In other words, playing U19 DA games isn't going to help those two get ready for MLS. Probably better than nothing but that's also a sad state.

This is the Revs MO tho....they bully, bench, ridicule until you voluntarily leave....maybe so they can keep you and call you "homegrown" like JR if they decide you get really good elsewhere?

And no....this didn't happen to my kid.....

You very rarely hear anything positive about the Revs. It’s mind boggling to me. Even parents that complete the process with their kids are glad to be done with the organization.

Nothing positive in my kid’s experience there. 3 lazy practices a week, a coach that is semi-conscious, no team spirit, no tactics, just a bunch of confused and frustrated boys running around on the field trying to show their individual moves.

[QUOTE=Unregistered;2450480]My kid is having a great time with the Revs. He gets good playing time, and respects the coach, Scales, who is good with the kids and knows his stuff. The team has improved, team spirit is good, and most kids are enjoying it. I have a couple of quibbles, but then that would be true for any club or coach. I’ve heard a lot of negative stuff about the 17s coach though. To be fair, that’s second and third hand knowledge.

True that. I feel sorry for any Revs homegrowns. I was just looking at ZH's stats and over that past FOUR years since signing as a homegrown; he's played just 10 games with the Revs (5 of which he was subbed in with less than 5 minutes of playing time). He played 5 games on loan with USL San Antonio and is now on loan with Heaps and Soehn in Birmingham. Just seems like a lot of time gone by with very little playing time, so I'm not sure how they think he's supposed to be developing. Hopefully, things will turn around for him this year, but you wonder whether he would have developed more playing at Providence, at least for a couple of years.

It'll be interesting to see if these new homegrowns will do any better, but I'm not optimistic about it if the Revs aren't willing to give them significant first team minutes right away. If they aren't, they should loan them out now to a USL team that will actually play them so they aren't languishing away on the bench. Scotty played 29 games the year he signed his HG contract. Diego played in just 6 games his first year, but was only 15 yrs old, and by the second season, he played 20 games. Huge difference from the way they are "developing" ZH. IA was injured most of last year, so we'll have to see if he fares better this year.

It’s not not just about that. The 2 ISL kids are good players, but so are the 2 new kids. One returned from the Revs, and an ex GPS player. Bolts 17s now have some forward strength, which will still be there next fall. Bolts played an even game with the Revs in the fall without any forwards, and with an equally young team. Most players on the Revs and Bolts are sophomores, with only a couple of juniors on each team, so thiers no argument involving age. Agree with the OP. Why is the talent split among the 2 academies, and arguably GPS to some degree? Surely the Revs should be able to identify and attract the best players in the area like other MLS academies. Clearly the free aspect is not enough for many families. The Bolts are generous with scholarships, which helps several excellent players. Coaching is better with the Bolts on average I’m guessing. Maybe it’s because the Revs don’t really care about every player, given that they are looking for the 1 or 2 who might be 1st team potential. Knowing that is one thing. Feeling it and experiencing it is another.

Revs/Bolts haters might disagree, but that would be a competitive team with the right coach. The Revs must be the only MLS Academy that can’t attract all, or at least the vast majority of the best players in the region.
The Revs will sign the 17’s goalie to a HG contract in the near future, when the Academy needs a positive PR boost.
