Ummm, seems like you haven't looked at the MLSNext standings lately? The two "true" MLS academy teams at U17 are ranked 5th & 6th in the league right now, with just plain old MLSNext teams above them. Revs are at 5th place, and that's having 2-3 games in hand over the teams above them, and only having won one out of the six games they've played. Perhaps you don't need to worry so much about those regular MLSNext teams being able to compete.

Also, the MLSNext setup is basically the same as DA, so if the Revs weren't able to cherry pick the best players in the region over the last 5 years, probably won't be changing just because of a league name change. What could possibly make a difference is the new academy director, but he would have to be able to sway the organization to put a lot more resources into the program for training and coaches to get to the level of other MLS clubs. Here's hoping!

How did the 6 teams get selected? And why is there a NEPSAC All Star team instead of a 6th club team. I assume NEPSAC all stars are just high school players. How do they belong?

And why did Bolts get to enter 2 teams and our club didn’t even get to enter 1?

First of all, the NEPSAC team isn’t going to be “just a bunch of HS players”. They will probably be the best team there. Second, the Bolts have two teams, because their MLS Next and their composite ECNL 2003 are both among the top 6 teams in MA. Your club didn’t get invited because they don’t have a team with mostly 2022s that can compete. This isn’t a normal event where teams just get to go by paying a registration fee this is just for the best 2022 grad year players to get seen live after a year of Covid during which time D1 and NESCAC coaches couldn’t go see them. My kid is going to be playing either with his club team or the NEPSAC team depending on how they are dealing with NEPSAC players that also play for one of these teams. Anyway, as a parent that knows this age group, they actually got this right with the exception of not including Seacoast. No idea why Seacoast MLS Next isn’t in this and Surf 2004 is.

So tired of NEPSAC parents. You had to go out of your way to tell us how your kid qualifies to play in this in two ways when the person you were responding two is pissed his kid can’t play.

At the end of the day, the people at TapIn picked who they wanted and thought are the best teams. There’s no objective way to say with certainty who the best 6 teams are, but it looks accurate to me too. I think everyone should just relax and appreciate this is even happening. I don’t think anything like this had been done before, and it’s pretty damn cool.

The best 04s play up. This is for the rest of the 04s.

Seacoast has 2022 players already committing at a rate higher than any other New England club so they don’t need a showcase like this.

Right, this tourney isn’t for those players. This a college fair connecting buyers (parents) and sellers (coaches). Dassit

The good NEPSAC players are already committed. They don’t need this showcase and likely won’t participate.

No, you are wrong. The NEPSAC all stars would not have many (if any) american born players. All of the foreign players that go there for free and carry their soccer teams are the ones that would be in this game (you know, the ones that also play for free at the academies) ... i guess those players will have to choose which team they play for. They will probably play two sets of games when their two teams are not playing each other so one of the very soft silver-spoon kids will have to sit (just like in NEPSAC and just like in academy).

There are only about a dozen players committed across all of these teams. And I’m sure they will still be playing.
