That FL event was so well-run and the competition across 5 levels was amazing. Clubs adding, not leaving. The only uncertainty comes from crappy CA, whose govenor can't find a way to give up his lockdown dictatorship. I'm quite sure that GA will be fine. And the hobbled west coast teams who have gone a year without playing will recover.

So much animosity towards the GA-- but why? Could it be that the GA's mere existence is threatening to the facist power structure of the ECNL? Nice try with the FUD cancel culture attempts-- I'm not buying it one bit.
I guess the question is why is GA needed? It just waters down an already watered down product.

It's needed (or at least exists; "needed" is in part a function of things outside the GA clubs' control) because ECNL botched a golden opportunity to unify elite club soccer in the country under one umbrella, and because US Soccer made a complete hash of starting, running, and ending DA. ECNL easily could have folded in all of the DA clubs and created two divisions in each age group based on merit. But the incumbent ECNL clubs in a lot of places (Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Seattle, Austin, etc) felt threatened weren't interested in competing on the merits with a lot of the DA clubs. And while Lavers talks a good game about wanting to unify the game and do what's best for everyone, at the end of the day he's a guy who runs one of the weakest clubs in ECNL, who doesn't really want to compete against other clubs in Wisconsin that may be stronger than his, and who wouldn't be able to stand up to the old boys network in the bigger clubs even if it wanted. So ECNL is now a hodgepodge of what it used to be (a relatively small league made up of a subset of the stronger clubs in the country), a regional league of B teams that will have sides show showcases at far flung fields at the same time as the A teams, and a bunch of clubs that aren't particularly strong or elite but that generally serve some goal of limiting travel costs in a region or increasing the regional span of the league. GA meanwhile, has a number of the stronger clubs that were excluded from ECNL or now seem to be persona non grata with ECNL for various reasons (SC Del Sol, Tophat, Nationals, NEFC, Weston, Colorado Rush, Lonestar, FC United, TSJ Virginia, Salvo Milwaukee, Houston Dash) and the San Diego/Orange County Clubs, to name some), clubs that were hit hard by DA's demise and now are rebuilding with a mix of stronger and not so strong teams and players, and clubs that provide some geographic reach and have an interest in providing a platform for holding onto the kinds of players they've been losing to ECNL/DA clubs for years. And unless there's some big further change. So, like many things youth soccer in this country, a mess made by the adult in charge.

"Tell me your a Trump supporter without TELLING me you're a Trump supporter."

Aside from that, I agree there's no need for folks to be so mad about the GA's existence

There are two Divisions ECNL is top and GA is the lower of the two. Eventually the good ones will move to ECNL.

The Reign wasn't even a Youth Club a few years ago. They tried a power move, swiped up half the talented girls in the region and then left them hanging. Now they want to whine about not being invited to ECNL....cant make this stuff up. What comes around goes around.

I would bet if they let you in now, you would abandon the GA and leave those other teams hanging.

Adding harbor premier to your elite travel league isn't really something to brag about.

You can start talking when clubs are leaving ecnl for Gal.

They weren’t even a pro club ten years ago. Power move of, uh, partnering with two local clubs that encouraged their players to go to Reign and then backed out of their deals (in part because of DA’s silly no high school rule)? From what I’ve heard Reign didn’t even wait for final word on whether ECNL would let them back in last year before working with the others in GA (although it did seem not getting into ECNL was a near certainty), and at this point I don’t think anyone is angling to get back into ECNL.

Kind of funny how Reign is still doing discovery sessions before ECNL tryouts. Will you discourage the Reign girls to try out for ECNL and will you let those that dont make it back ot the club? Just asking for a friend.

Wow a lot of words. Maybe the should clarify. Why is it needed locally? If Reign/DA was so great the girls could play on any ECNL club compete with teams locally and nationally.

Coaches need jobs. You could have 11 YNT players or 11 Rec players and the coach would still get the same paycheck. At the end of the day, you just have to field a team. Results dont really matter.

Some kids at Reign (and ISC, Spokane, etc) think the benefits of staying with their club outweigh the benefits of going to one of the ECNL clubs, or for those who wouldn’t make an ECNL team the benefits of whatever other league they’d otherwise be playing in. The number of kids reaching that conclusion would be a lot smaller if their club wasn’t in some league that provided a higher level of competition and visibility to colleges than pspl or rcl. And ECNL wasn’t letting their clubs in so they needed a league. A bunch of other clubs around the country were in basically the same boat, so GA game together.

news flash: the ecnl clubs will also let kids from reign and other non-ecnl club come to a training session or two to check out the club if there is any potential interest, just as reign (and i'd think isc or anyone else) would for anyone from another club considering a move. 100% sure that reign won't tell kids they are off a team if they check out another club (equally sure that xf has historically told kids they aren't welcome back for even checking out reign, although i think that practice is unique to xf)

One additional part to that - RCL expressly prohibits players from attending any training with another RCL club without written permission, or in the period between end of season and tryouts. However, RCL players can attend non-RCL club training without breaking the rules (though perhaps not without penalyt/retribution), likewise non-RCL players can attend RCL training.
