Shouldn't club fees be publicly disclosed?

Club fees that are posted are usually fake. My child played at Mass City and we were told what the fee was. We were not told we would be charged about $600-700 additional over the course of the year when we wanted to do tournaments, indoor leagues, etc.

How about this for a better analogy: check out any university and see if tuition costs are listed.
Bingo - he has a quoted rate because the company came out and gave him an estimate, then they both agreed on the amount

No one should ever sign a club contract with out all the details spelled out. # practices per week (fall/winter/spring), # tournaments*, if it includes uniforms etc. It's up to families to make sure they are comparing apples to apples across clubs but you have to ask questions. Clubs that nickel and dime you to death are often times not the better run clubs.

        * it's ok to add events if something seems appealing but typically a contract will spell out 2-3 that they know if. Also, make sure that includes coach travel because sometimes contracts don't

What was stipulated in your contract?

What about coaches at the clubs? Who will you get ? what is their background / education / experience? shouldn't we know about them, who we are paying for to develop the kids and will it be the same coach all year? I am sure all the ECNL and DPL and MLS+ teams will know thier coaches but what about the third U12's team, in NEP who are still paying a lot of money, anyone care?

In a perfect world yes of course. But in some degree of fairness to the the clubs they won't know all of that for certain when contracts are due - depends on how many teams they have, what staff is coming/going - and that can change over the summer also and can't be planned for. The two current and last two clubs we were with either told us who the coach will definitely be or who the likely backup is. At least then we've got a pretty good idea of who it will be. If they can't tell you that much, tell them you won't sign. Also take a look at the entire staff - if most are solid coaches that you think would be ok it shouldn't be an issue. If you only want one or two and none of the rest? Then you should really question signing because those two remaining good coaches could leave

Probably and some do but details matter in order to compare apples to apples - how many practices a week, how many tournaments and where (so you know about travel costs), are uniforms included (and if not how much?). But they'd like to get a look at your kid and vice versa before they do a hard sell. There's also lots of deals made for players they really want.
                Stop.
                This is not the EPL.
                “Deals made for players”…lol
