Lots of people do have to use local affordable leagues. Your tesla player only has to compete with the other tesla kids, not the ford kids. The groups are stuck in different cars and do not compete on the same field.

The pay to play ECNL system has ruined the sport. Leaving other top clubs out instead of welcoming the competition. Tons of clubs in NJ that should be in like STA, CSA, Real….

agree. In long term it is not a good thing for the soccer as the money required to play will keep many talent kids away from this sport.

Its the travel that takes from middle class to upper class. Hotle rooms, plane flights, gas , dinners , lunches etc ... ECNL events are mandatory for clubs at least 1.Then throw in the playoffs.

If your kid is good and you look you will find an affordable team for him/her. A lot of clubs will offer scholarships specifically if the kid is good.

Financial competition. There are participation costs and the cost of advancing your child in the program. The later exists and most can’t compete with this unfortunate reality.
