I'm seeing a trend toward players and families concentrating only on making great video, not playing great soccer. It's what gets scouts eyes' open and on their radar, but makes for terrible soccer players.

I just sat and watched 400+ kids at an ID Camp, and 1/2 of them had no business being there. I saw one kid who I know, who (and this is not an exaggeration) can't complete more than 20% of their passes and has a 2% successful take-on rate. Can't receive, can't dribble under pressure, can't complete a pass, plays soft considering her size, won't defend, can't put a shot on net.

But, this is a big muscular kid who can juggle and do stepovers with no pressure and has the top of the line recruiting service package so when you look at it, you think this is the second coming. Watch a game and you'd be disgusted.

The game is being ruined by turning it into "how to get my kid into college" vs. "how to get my kid to be a great soccer player".

Most ID camps were closed because of Covid. So were campus visits and parts or all of playing seasons and coaches were limited to view players. That meant video clips of even a few matches were more important than even. My child was recruited based on videos, not optimal but it all worked out and received a fantastic offer from a top college.
