People think that little kids need to pay to play at a club, with a paid coach, an expensive uniform, rented fields, and referees - and then Club A has to travel to Club B and play an "official" game so parents can brag about how their kid's team is better than someone else's kids team. Just let the kids play in as informal of a way as is possible. All of the other crap is about the adults, not the kids.
yeah, this didn't occur to me. Still doesn't.

In an ideal world, yes, we would return to the simpler days of soccer and it would have much less structure and consist of a lot more free-play, street soccer, etc. but that is a horse you are not getting back in the barn. Too many people profit off the game now and would revolt if they had to give that up. carding fees, registration fees, ref fees, field fees, coaching fees, overpriced uniforms, booking companies for events....its too late.

I'm not arguing that point, you are probably right. I'm just pointing out how sad it is that adults have taken a fun game for kids and turned it in to something that has become this ridiculous.

Huh. My D really enjoyed her travel soccer experience, and it never stopped her from playing pick-up games with friends. Seemed like a good combination of structure and freedom.

when your kids get older, you will understand.
