MA's high vaccination rate helped the Cape dodge a bullet. Put a mask back on inside, get vaccinated if you haven't been:

'The sky is not falling': Provincetown outbreak shows vaccines work, even against Delta

WASHINGTON — If you want to cast blame for the return of face masks, you will have to look to the charming fishing village of Provincetown, Mass., at the tip of Cape Cod. An outbreak of several hundred cases there earlier this month alerted public health officials to the fact that the Delta variant of the coronavirus transmits much more easily than people had previously thought.

“The war has changed,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention acknowledged in an internal presentation that summarized the new findings about Delta, which led the agency to reimpose a mask mandate earlier this week in an urgent bid to keep the pandemic from spiking again across the U.S.

And if you want to find a reason for why no such spike will take place — or how such a spike can be effectively prevented — you would do well to look to the same charming fishing village. A combination of high vaccination rates and renewed masking appears to have significantly slowed growth of the Provincetown cluster just as that cluster was making national news.

“Day by day, things are improving,” town manager Alex Morse told Yahoo News.

Though effectiveness varies by vaccine brand, most are quite potent against infection and exceptionally so at preventing the kind of infection that causes serious illness. Of the 833 people in the Provincetown cluster as of Wednesday, only seven had been hospitalized. And zero had died.

In the CDC study, which accounted for the first 469 cases in the cluster — the only ones the agency had time to study — 74 percent, or 346, occurred in fully vaccinated people. That has given rise to the fear of infections that break through the vaccines and cause people to become sick with COVID-19.

Of those 346 people with breakthrough infections, 79 percent reported symptoms, but those tended to be mild, such as cough or headache. Nearly everyone recovered at home. Of the few who had to go to the hospital, several had underlying conditions.

Go figure, a red state governor with some common sense (although alittle too late)

"Louisiana restored its statewide indoor mask mandate on Monday amid a dramatic surge in COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations, with the governor saying the state was in the worst phase of the pandemic thus far.

Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) said the reinstated rules will go into effect on Wednesday, a move that emphasizes the growing threat of the delta strain of the coronavirus, a highly transmissible variant that has dampened the hopes of a return to normal nationwide.

The mask mandate will apply to all people age 5 and older in indoor public places, regardless of vaccination status, and will remain in place until at least Sept. 1.

“This is bad. And it’s not this bad anywhere else in the country today,” Bel Edwards said during a news briefing. “It has become extremely clear that our current recommendations on their own are not strong enough to deal with Louisiana’s fourth surge of COVID. In fact, nobody should be laboring under the misapprehension that this just another surge. This is the worst one we’ve had.” https://www.yahoo.com/news/louisiana...085618595.html

TC, why is Louisiana panicking? 99% survival rate. What's the big deal about hospitals being overrun, emergency rooms without beds to treat stroke, heart attack and accident victims? Tell us why this surge is no big deal and that they're overreacting. I mean, the damn governor is taking away unvaccinated peoples' freedom to infect others by not wearing masks; why the big deal?

Can't wait to hear from our resident Village Idiot.

Cons all in an fake uproar that Obama is having an OUTDOOR birthday party with all guests either vaccinated or have a negative Covid test, probably many wearing masks....while Lindsay Graham seems to have picked up Covid at an unmasked event

"Sen. Lindsey O. Graham announced Monday that he has tested positive for the coronavirus, a development that comes after he recently attended GOP and Senate functions without wearing a mask ...

Graham’s announcement follows a week of rising tensions on Capitol Hill over a renewed call for mask-wearing by the Capitol physician after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidance in response to the growing number of infections across the country stemming from the delta variant of the virus.

The House and Senate have split over how to respond to the growing number of infections across the country.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) last week reimposed a mask requirement on that side of the Capitol, threatening to fine members who do not wear masks in the House chamber, saying she was following the advice of Brian Monahan, the top doctor in the Office of the Attending Physician of Congress.

But the Senate adopted a more laissez-faire approach, with no guidance from Monahan released and senators and their staffs making their own decision about whether to wear a mask. That created a split-screen image in which the entire Republican side of the Senate chamber would be maskless, as the Democratic side was overwhelmingly masked up."

"This is the worst one we’ve had" the LA governor said. Meanwhile in FL DeathSantis keeps blockading local mask mandates while FL now has more cases now than ever before.. He just bullied Broward County into dropping their school mask mandate by threatening to withhold funding. I thought cons were all about local decisions and freedumbs?

Arkansas governor now says he regrets the mask mandate ban. He is having legislators meet to ammendment the ban. Why do cons have to be hit over the head to finally get it?

Aren't conservatives all about letting businesses run as they see fit? Even letting them discriminate against customers if they want? Then why are DeSantis and others barring mask bans by businesses that want to protect their employees and customers?

Aren't conservatives all about local officials making their own decisions in how to run things in their areas? Then why are DeSantis and others not allowing local school boards have mask mandates to protect unvaccinated students? Isn't threatening to withhold state funding if there is a mask mandate akin to blackmail?

Are you serious in asking where the poster gets his/her facts from? How about from DeSantis' mouth and the legislation. Here is DeSantis' official statement:

Over the last year we’ve avoided protracted lockdowns and school closures in Florida because I have refused to take the same approach as other lockdown Governors. This legislation ensures that legal safeguards are in place so that local governments cannot arbitrarily close our schools or businesses,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “In Florida, your personal choice regarding vaccinations will be protected and no business or government entity will be able to deny you services based on your decision. I’d like to thank President Simpson, Speaker Sprowls and the Florida Legislature for getting this legislation got across the finish line.”

SB 2006 will ensure that neither the state nor local governments can close businesses or keep students out of in-person instruction at Florida schools, except for hurricane emergencies, and caps all local emergency at seven-day increments.

The legislation also allows the Governor of Florida to invalidate a local emergency order if it unnecessarily restricts individual rights or liberties. The bill also improves Florida’s emergency planning for future public health emergencies, by adding personal protective equipment and other public health supplies to the inventory of the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Additionally, the legislation codifies the prohibition of COVID-19 vaccine passports. Governor DeSantis enacted this prohibition through an executive order last month, blocking any business or government entity from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

                                you are deflecting libby.

Looks like you posted some bs (or maybe you didn't, i don't know.) if what you typed is legit, why not just post your sources? your research? should not be a big deal.

furthermore, Nobody (especially me) never said the vaccines are worthless. All I said was that the FDA is recommending that the vaccines be used for EMERGENCY PURPOSES ONLY.

So I'm sorry that this fact is not supported by your partys platform. So with with 99% survival rate, why are your liberal slave masters pushing the vaccine down our throats?
LOGIC would dictate that if you are a 1% (perhaps elderly and/or someone with a serious pre existing condition) yeah you should probably get it right?

                                Math, Science and LOGIC.
You want to call someone a "village idiot"? perhaps you should look in the mirror.

The first step to recovery is acknowledging you have a problem and are wrong...otherwise a deaf blind and dumb sheep is all you will ever be.
Different poster. Let’s approach this differently.

Steve Doocy over at FOX News said something on point (there’s my “source” so you go ahead and impeach him as a “know notjing”if you can).

20% of those currently hospitalized in Arkansas right now (you know, the place where the GQP Governor said yesterday he made a “mistake” when he banned mask mandates), 20% are children.

Looks like the delta variant isn’t “just like the flu” like you cons claimed about OG Covid.

But you covid truthers are obviously FINE with all the sick children out there. That’s becoming VERY obvious as you continue to duck and dodge the reality outside your window.
