How does a club get an "Academy" title ? It's seems that so called "elite" clubs have this title but I'm wondering with all these clubs with "Academy " in their name, is there some sort of steps that a club must complete to be called an "Academy" or can anyone call their club an "Academy" club? Do they have to be in certain leagues ?

I don’t think there are any steps. The 3 academy level leagues right now are gal, ecnl, and nl. Have fun!

Seriously though an academy is nothing more then a self anointed title. Anywhere but the US an academy is a school while a club is an outside organization.

It's a marketing term, coming in 2nd for overuse to "pre-anything (pre academy, pre ecnl, pre...) The only true academies are MLS clubs where players are selected based on skill not the ability to pay.

cut and paste really-
PSA Princeton Soccer Association one day -> Princeton Soccer Academy the next day
Youth soccer is an unregulated business with no set standards place. "titles" like Academy are made by the soccer business. closed leagues "validate" clubs "standards" by allowing clubs to partcipate and clubs can charge "academy" prices but, the closed league still retains a 501c3 status.

When is the last time you saw a housing development advertised as anything other than "luxury housing." In the same way, everything calls itself an "academy."
Here is the real difference. If you have to pay to play, it is not an academy. If you play for free it is an academy.
