Major awards? Goal of the year? Seriously?

Rubio has been a big fat disappointment and peaked in 2012. The guy played for the San Diego Loyal last year.

And he's still better than anyone to come from your club.

Okay, this made me laugh. Cut the Westside folks some slack. It is not their fault that they are stuck in the past, desperately clinging to any illusion they are still relevant in a watered down soccer community. Let us all celebrate a mediocre, journeyman player who hit a banger...that he absolutely never would have hit were it not for the likes of Cony.

Now now. No less a master than Diego Maradona himself taught Rubin to hit that shot. If SLC runs a dead-man free kick, THAT you can credit to Cony. And other than perhaps Erik Hurtado or Chad Barrett, this "mediocre journeyman player" is still better than any male player to come from the Portland area before or since. (Excluding college-only players like Keller or Melia).

Of course, Copa Red just won fall league at both boys 08 and 09 age groups, though the 08s are still waiting for Cap Timbers to enter a score to make it official. (OPFC won the 10 age group, for what it's worth).

But for better or worse, pro development is going through the Timbers nowadays, so if you're kid is not on that track, find a club that he or she is happy at, and isn't a b1tch to travel to.

Just to help frame more of this peculiar narrative; one season of playing in the 2021 watered down 27 team MLS single entity (aka ponzi scheme)---makes you better than anyone else from the Portland area before or since.

              Just to clarify this nonsense.

What really separates this guy is the fact Diego Maradona taught him the nuances of how to function in a lower Mexican league as a struggling drug addict, which is truly a special accomplishment.

                      Subpar, certainly.

Like crabs in a bucket. Even the modest accomplishments we do have get trashed, because the player is from a club we don't like.

All because some coaches would rather monetize the top talent that they do manage to find and recruit, rather than lose these players to someone else. And the local professional team, who ought to be nurturing the best of the best, can't be bothered to not half-a55 it, which gives the local soccer bums the opening they need.
