Bloomberg News reported later Thursday, citing two people familiar with the transaction, that Colonial paid the hackers nearly $5 million.

Once the payment was made, in untraceable cryptocurrency, the hackers gave the pipeline operator a decrypting tool to restore the network, according to the Bloomberg report.

      Follow along

But the real point is that Joe and the Fed did not roll over and let Russian hackers run roughshod over us like Trump always did. Joe got the gas flowing to FL, NC, SC, VA again!

Thank you President Biden for bailing out the private sector. Haven’t these oil and gas companies made enough money to pay for some real security ?
      Keystone pipeline, bad.

      Ocean wind farm, good.

The Biden administration has approved Vineyard Wind 1, the first major offshore wind farm in federal waters.

So according to the hypocritical environmental libbies ****in up the ocean and it's ecology is ok.

No. I'm saying the poster, who praised his dear leader for "saving the private sector" lied.

Please do try to keep up. Might save you a bit of time and you will be much more effective in your day-to-day.

But wasn’t the poster going by what Colonial said publicly? That they would NEVER pay a a ransom? Isn’t your beef with them or with the person who took the con capitalist Koch’s at their word?

              If indeed it’s true

I'm chuckling over the sizzlechest who proudly asserted that Biden bailed them out...and flat out lied.

Not the poster but critics have made it clear Colonials system was "lackluster" to say the least. Much of the systems critical to keep the nation running are in the hands of the private sector, not the government, even though they are "vital."

Many companies get hit like Colonial did and pay the ransom out of desperation. It doesn't make the news often because it usually doesn't have this kind of impact on millions. Ideally they shouldn't pay, but if a hack is costing them big $ and customers it's probably cheaper and faster to pay. God knows hackers are rarely caught or prosecuted, even more so if they're overseas. What is a company supposed to do?

if you have a kid at all computer savvy and interested in career, encourage them to specialize in cyber security. They'll always have a job.
