May I add, I think high level competitions want to compete against high level competition. Town and travel soccer, even HS, just doesn't offer it.

    Good luck.
I love how everyone trashes HS soccer. My kid is so great when he is on the other team but HS soccer team sucks. Newsflash, your kid is part the horrible high school team. If they were so good by themselves their team and their teams style of play would also be elevated. If High School Soccer was as bad as everyone writes here their kid would be out scoring 9 goals a game. Pretty sure that doesn't happen.

Another parent with delusions of grandeur regarding their kid. My kid isn't scoring because the coach is bad, his defense is bad blah blah blah. Face it he's not the Messi you think he is. Move on to the next sport loser and stop blaming the school for your kids lack of success at the high school level. The cream will always rise to the top no matter where they are playing.

This may be a dumb question, but don’t the best high school age (boys) soccer players skip HS soccer because they are on BDA teams?

Not necessarily. Some good players don't want to give up HS. Many top players play for private and prep schools which can get exemptions from the rule. Some join MLS teams once their HS season is over .

There's a massive gap between a top Red Bulls starter and a bench warmer at many MLS Next teams. It's the latter group who should question if giving up HS is worth it. Many of them don't get recruited or end up at the same college level top EDP or boys ECNL players do.

bda players were not "the best" they were very good players that went to the tryout.
If it was that good?... how was it a total failure?

according to the ncaa. The greater majority of soccer players played both HS and Club.

answering my own post, here is the backup from ncaa

Its a very simple notion. If you love to play, you will play anywhere at any time against anybody.

Not the poster and yes that is true. But if you want higher level men's soccer MLS is pretty much a necessity. There simply aren't as many D1 programs (100 fewer than the women's) and big competition from foreign players for spots. That said, there's a lot of opportunities outside of top D1 - lower D1, D2 and D3 that do not need MLS. The MLS patch might make recruiting easier but it's no guarantee of being a quality player. As said above lower level MLS+ teams take whoever is willing to give up HS and write a check.

No, not really. A dedicated player wants to continually improve. You're going to hit a developmental brick wall only playing on local teams. Quality plummets by HS because the better players have moved up to the better clubs and leagues.

Also, if college all is a goal 1) almost no coaches watch HS games (maybe if it's near by and convenient) and 2) they don't recruit at low level leagues. You'll get smoked at ID events where nearly every player plays EDP and on up the food chain
