Is it negative to try to do what’s best for those 9 trapped players who get screwed? The crazy thing is that it is an easy fix and would help US soccer overall with total enrollment.

And there is an 8th grade trap as well. It really is silly. Having 7/31 as cutoff made so much more sense.

Dumb move to help a handful of top players to the detriment of literally thousands. Soccer participation has been declining ever since. The age thing isn't the only reason of course - cost and absurd travel isn't helping either - but it definitely is impacting it. Younger kids first starting out especially want to play with their friends and will less likely to if all their friends are on the other team. Then there's the trapped issue on top of that where kids drop out. In CT our late school cutoff makes this less of an issue but it's a big problem in other states

Sorry but when we see something utterly stupid that negatively impacts kids and the sport we're going to call it out. We should want as many kids playing as possible at any level
