ECNL headquarters isn’t going to grant FL Premier - or any club - the top league of girls ECNL (not same as second level ECNL-R) if you don’t have the talent resources available in the geographic area - across all age groups -to succeed. If ECNL made that mistake, it would cause competing girls ECNL clubs in the same geographic area (TBU) to be watered down within the ECNL league resulting in those current ECNL girl clubs (TBU and club x) losing competitiveness in the entire Southeast league .
Best way to gauge whether that local talent exists, or not, on the girls side is looking at results of 2009s since you can compare apples to apples since they are in the same general leagues (CDL / ECNL-R) and play in similar tournaments at times before they jump at U13 to ECNL from U12 pre-ECNL (TBU) and U13 ECNL-R from pre-ECNL-R (Fl Premier). But when you do it, be honest with which team(s) you are comparing since there is usually an A and a B team (clubs and parents know which the club has designated, regardless of what is on their club website).
Everybody knows that girls ECNL teams like TBU U13 and older don’t play FL Premier unless it is some strange circumstance (like tournament) since they aren’t in the same league (FL Premier is in ECNL-R instead). Nor is one game between a 2007 ECNL-R (Florida Premier) vs 2007 ECNL (TBU) enough to make some grand generalized conclusion either. Nor is a weekend of a clubs first teams (Florida Premier ECNL-R) against another clubs B teams (TBU’s ECNL-R) a comparable gauge either of available local girls talent.
ECNL is actually doing the area - and FL Premier - a favor by not granting FL Premier girls ECNL. Looking at U12 results from local games vs ECNL clubs (TBU) is best way to gauge LOCAL talent before comparing to outside areas and their clubs. Another gauge is club results in tournaments, whether held with only FL top ECNL-R teams in Glen Allen at Jefferson Cup (FL Premier did less .500) or a mix clubs in New Port Richey (FL Premier did less .500 on girls side) are just one enlightening factor a league like ECNL considers.
Unfortunately, there just isn’t enough of that LOCAL talent on the girls side in the Tampa Bay area to justify another ECNL girls club in addition to TBU. All of the marketing & hiring for marketing in the world isn’t going to change the amount of talent that is available in the area (currently split between ECNL at TBU and GAL (formerly girls DA) at West Florida Flames). You can recruit Rec players and build rosters to look big, it isn’t changing the quantity or lack thereof of top talent. Period. Size of club doesn’t change finite availability of talent on girls side in a geographic area. FL Premier doesn’t seem to understand that - much less that the numbers of talent are considerably lower on girls side than boys.
Boys side is completely different in numbers in the talent pool. There is enough talent for several local MLS clubs for boys (Clearwater, WFF, TBU) and plenty of leftovers for 2nd boys league ECNL (TBU and FL Premier).
