    All Sunday games cancelled

Apparently it took referees dropping out to do this tournament in. And that's a problem. Did the tournament have well stocked referee tents? Did they have multiple spray stations for referees? Were they paying premium to referees to ensure all games were covered? And/or were they paying premium to referees so they'd only work 2-3 games vs. trying to work 6.

There are a couple questions and answers in this thread. One: Should the tournament have been cancelled? Two: Is Washington Timbers crap at running a tournament? The answers are maybe and yes so it's really hard to tell what should have been done. But just know this. The tournament was cancelled because there was not enough referees to cover the games - Not because they cared about kids safety.

      NO REFS, NO GAMES!

I’d gladly accept a tournament ban if that means no more trips to Harmony. What a ****ing mess that place is

Shorter morning games is fine. Also provide any shade if possible (tents for team sidelines), free and readily available water everywhere, lots of medical staff on hand.
Obviously no one could have predicted the weather.....except literally every 10 day forecast on the planet.

            Cash grab. Losers

All games cancelled now. What a great tourney! Would have been way easier to cancel earlier. Now the will see the real clash coming.

You won’t see the real clash until next year when no one shows up.

                1) The tournament was organized well in advance of predictions of a heat wave. As are all such tournaments. Bad weather sometimes happens.

                2) They are issuing refunds for unplayed games.

                3) Generally, it's a well run tournament, much better run IMHO than Mt. Hood Challenge, the other local tournament of similar size and scope. Our family (not at WashT) has participated in Clash for several years now; other than the fact that it's a bit of a drive from our corner of the metro area to N Portland/Vancouver, we've always enjoyed Clash.

This doesn't sound like an unhappy parent/club mad that their weekend was ruined. This sounds like someone at a rival club, not involved, looking to take a cr@p on Washington Timbers for some reason or another.

                P1ss off, mate.

This sounds like someone with their head up their *****. Tournaments get cancelled all the time for weather. The difference here is Washington Timber’s didn’t want to give back any money....

Who cares about little Bobby and Suzy...we need to keep paying the soccer bums who have no other source of income.

Well ran tourney? That place is a dumpster fire with terrible fields and awful parking lots. Get over yourself jerk off.

There were two dirty port o potties at Harmony Friday. When more finally did show up I watched them drive onto the field of a game that was in progress. The ref had to stop the game and give the driver assistance. If that’s “well run” to you, you got no clue.

To be equal, no local tourney is really any different than any other; and that’s not just a Portland thing. Go to Surf, that’s well run.

Summer tourneys aren't a great way to keep soccer bums employed, dumb azz.

Private training is where all the action is at.

The crooked clubs are the ones where parents are told that Junior has potential... but if he doesn't want to lose his spot on the A team, he might want to put in some "extra work". Lots of kids behind him/her on the bench, who are trying to take his/her place. Running a tournament is too much hard work, and a fair bit of financial risk--I'm pretty sure that WashT isn't going to get refunds for the fields it booked and did not use.

At any rate, what local tourney is better? Pretty much all of them are played on fields of similar quality, and while Harmony's parking lot is notorious, most of the games aren't at Harmony.

The clash is refunding. They sent out an email stating they would.

I'm not sure about capital cup. looking at the capital cup they only end up with 150 teams anyways. Can't be much of a money maker...

Clash looks like they had 350 teams. Those are crazy numbers.
