If the latter, it would both explain the poor performance in State Cup, and be a bit of a red flag. If nobody on the team wants to step up and learn the position full-time, and the team can't recruit one from somewhere else, that's kind of an issue.

There was a Field player in goal for state cup, but during the winter season he had some 07 or 08 keeper. His last full time keeper left a year ago for better pastures

You can say what you want, but picking the right club is a big decision. Not only for the kid and their development, but also the social side as a family. You spend a LOT of time with these people and needs to be vetted. I like to use every resource option.

If you haven't noticed...this chat board covers all states. It seems that many of you think Oregon is the only state that plays soccer. Maybe you didn't realize that prior to this. But...if you click the little links above you we see all the states. We have a lot of them...not sure I you were aware of that either.

BTW...soccer in Oregon is average. The development program is extremely fragmented from my view and no clear leaders at any age. The youth rec program for kids to get familiar with soccer is...garbage. It is filled with parents coaching that have never played the game. Very disappointing. Cant even teach a kid the proper way to kick a ball.

Yes, this chat board is often filled with garbage....however, you can find nuggets of truth amongst the garbage.

We moved to the area a few years ago. Everyone has a different opinion but it really comes down to convenience (how far is practice from your home), where your child is in his/her development, and the coaching philosophy that best fits you. Go to a club's website and get the coach's email or phone number. Contact the coach and ask to attend some practice sessions. Then, go watch some of their games. We did this and found it very helpful. We watched a team during a tournament game and liked both the players and parents. The parents were supportive- no obnoxious yelling at the ref. The coach only spoke when he needed to and didn't micro manage the game. Hope this helps save you both time and money in the wrong club.

United is just looking for hardware, unless you are a big dog...you are not playing. The bench is big AND full. They merged 2 premier teams to create one for state cup. At least they allowed the 07 teams to have both teams play in state cup.

At least the 07 team consists of players updx developed, rather than stolen from FC Portland (06), harvested from Timbers Academy washouts (05), or bribed through ODP (04).

07 was still mostly recruited and only produced a few (4 ) academy players between the 2 teams
