Every congressional Republican voted against the covid-19 rescue bill, which created the current child allowance by temporarily expanding the previously existing child tax credit to poorer and working-class families, making it much more like a universal program.

And every Republican will likely oppose extending the expanded child allowance. It’s now set to expire next year, and Democrats hope to extend it until 2025 in the $3.5 trillion “human infrastructure” bill they want to pass through the Senate via reconciliation.

While just about all Republicans supported the previous version of the child tax credit, and the policy has a bipartisan history, the rub here is that the expansion of it to poorer families — which Republicans oppose — will itself have an outsize impact on rural residents and red states."

Full FDA approval coming within a few weeks. So then what's your excuse? There's already been several tried and lost cases in the courts. Once full FDA approval comes there will be no legal standing. Many employers, colleges, the military requiring it now.

Meanwhile DeSantis is grasping at straws to stop school mask mandates - now threatening to withhold the paychecks of school administrators who enact mandates. He lost the cruise ship battle yesterday in court. If his position is so "strong" and grounded in science, why does he keep having to resort to threats and blackmail?

A few years ago NY state got rid of the religious exemption rule for school vaccinations and now has to only be for medical reasons. They had too many disease outbreaks among the orthodox jewish population who are notoriously antivax. Some other states have that as well. So far the cases that antivaxers have brought to court they've lost (employment, university attendance). Once the FDA gives full approval for the covid vaccines all the antivaxers will be rushing to get a note from their docs, not all of whom will cooperate in their stupidity.
