"There have been nine COVID deaths and 20,000 coronavirus cases among those detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Axios reported, citing numbers from the agency.
ICE did not provide the exact number of illegal immigrants turning down a shot, but the 30 percent figure has been shared internally, the report said.
Illegal immigrants have been refusing the vaccine for the same reasons that many Americans have — because they’re skeptical that it is safe, the report said.
ICE distributed more than 9,500 doses of an initial allotment of 10,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and has been working with states to provide vaccinations to migrants. "
Seems like ICE should be getting more vaccines to states, no? 10K i s not a lot even if 30% turn it down.
That many republicans said they won't get vaccinated (below). So of approximately 127M adult republicans (assuming they're about half of the US more or less), 38M say they WILL NOT get vaccinated. That's more than the number of immigrants living in the US and far, far more than the thousands of newly arrived and in detention or released (most caught are sent right back to Mexico). That compares to 5M Dems who said they won't get it. Who is the biggest problem in the US?
"A new survey from The Economist/YouGov reveals Americans may be resistant or accepting of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine based on their political party.
Overall, 59% of respondents in the survey said they had received all doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Among Democrats, 78% said they were vaccinated and only 4% said they will not get vaccinated. In contrast, just 50% of Republicans said they were fully vaccinated and 29% said they would not get vaccinated.
