    Williams Men's

Job opened up tonight. That is a big shock for it to happen at this time o the year.

They just had an ID clinic, too. This is highly unusual.

Becoming intramural coordinator. Seems like odd move. First class guy, stuck around two hours to talk to every player at ID clinic.

Could be personal reasons, wanted a change, who knows. It's unlikely there was something nefarious going on since the school kept him on staff.

Why would someone walk away from a job that pays $17.50 an hour?

$3b endowment and they don’t pay their coach a living wage. Not a good look for Williams. Same at many elite D3s, even worse for assistant coaches.

He did speak to players after id clinics, but he wasn't great at recruiting, honestly.

Williams #1 academically, very good coach. If you and your kid couldn’t figure that out on your own then not the best fit.

I have a hard time believing the job pays less than 40k.

Not the poster but coaching isn't the same as recruiting. Being a top school it naturally attracts a lot of talent so he has (had) lots of players to pick and chose from. Do something with a lesser program then that's more impressive.

It's probably in the 45-60K range. The school would consider it part time since technically there's no spring "season". But no coaching job is part time when you have recruiting to do, seasons to plan for. Coaching is a grind in season - a lot of time away from home in the fall. Maybe he was burnt out, had medical issues, family/life changes, who knows? All that matters now is who is the replacement.

Williams recruits itself. anyone should be successful there.

By being bad at recr, I meant that he lost out on 2 top recruits who probably would have accepted offers there, had he been better at recruiting and made more timely offers. Both players went on to comparable academic schools, albeit ones in the top 10 of d3 programs. The coach just was not great at communicating. Kind of the opposite of Serpone.

"Offers" is a loose term when it comes to D3 recruiting. The all verbal offer really is: as long as you get in you have a spot. D3s give pre reads to help give assurances but you still have to actually get admitted. Communication is also a two way streak - players can and should reach out, multiple times. If a coach starts ghosting you keep trying, but at some point you may have to move on.

Even if he were a poor communicator it hasn't really hurt the program. That's not something you lose a job over or keep a job at the school with.

ridiculous what Williams collects, what they have endowed and to not pay great coaches a living wage. Yikes. Williams sucks
