    Bethesda ECNL DAD

Sorry for coming on the new jersey site but my daughter plays for Bethesda and her new coach is from NJ. His name is Shaun Cryer. Does anyone know anything about him?

His wife is a former player of his, so there's that.

There was a thread devoted to Shaun Cryer only a couple months ago. I believe it was also started by a Bethesda parent.

Sentiment is mixed pending what kind of coach you want. Seems Shaun gets the best out of Elite Players he coaches but is also critical and can be a yeller. He does get results though.

I would give it a year. Sometimes a fresh start for a coach is chance to make some changes understanding his previous mistakes. Or maybe not. Only time will tell.

        Good Luck!

His STA teams were some of the best, when they moved to Dynamite they were still some of the best. So there is that.

Was it all SC or did the players all going to A Game factor? I find there was always a lot of crossover.

You either love him or hate him. No middle ground. Amazing trainer, but an occasionally troubled coach. Massive following in NJ.

Check on previous threads about him on TS. He even chimed in every now and then.

Best thing that could happen to your club. You have some good teams and SC will absolutely make them great. The caveat is you may lose some kids along the way because not every kid can handle him

Good coach, but your daughter will need to be mentally tough to play for him. Vocal coach. As those types of coaches become far less common than when we played, some kids just can’t succeed under that type of coach. Good luck to you.

D played his teams a few times. Can say they were tough and relatively skilled. I'm sure he has to be better then what was their as the Bethesda team we played was not very good at all.

He did yell, a lot and loud, during the games. Some not so positive stuff.

He must be very good. He’s U14 team just won the USYS NE regionals and are heading to the USYS national championship. Lucky for MD to get him.

Danny. Another guy that married one of his former players.

The club he left STA has not been the same since he left. You’re lucky to have him and he wanted to coach at a higher level in ECNL anyway.

Actually, he a psycho who gets off on berating & demeaning kids to the point of tears. He has no business being near children. NJ has 4 ECNL entries, NY Metro has 3, EPA has 3...gotta ask yourself why a longtime NJ coach has to go to MD for a job.
