They wanted it that way to begin with but with covid around this year they wanted in state options for games.

As it stands now, they'll keep the MLS Elite league games to use as training but participate in MLS Academy only events that they actually care about.

No it s not true. It will all be one league but I do believe if covid is not an issue the MLS academies are expected to travel more this season to play other MLS academy teams. They are doing a MLS U23 league though, so maybe that is what you are hearing.
Just because we are talking MLS Next I wanted to give a congrats to OC U17 for being named top boys U17 side in the country.
