The money from parents goes into the club and then the club issues payment. The higher-level clubs pay licensed coaches under $10K for younger teams and coaches that work with high school age players get around $12K.
sure take an online grass roots course, and then command 10k per team. Not a bad gig.
I really depends if you don't mind working 3 nights a week and most weekends and holidays. Don't quit your day job, and get comfortable working from 8:30am to when you get home from training which will be around 10-11pm if you coach older players. Most coaches don't do it for the money. If you are married with kids, it's a tough gig if you care about seeing your family, because you won't see your family much if you are coaching at the ECNL or MLS Next level.
