What’s the best of these systems? Pros and cons?

Veo is the simplest. Set up camera, hit record when match starts, hit stop when match ends, upload the match video when you get home (or back to the hotel) and the Veo software does the rest. When the software is done processing the video, you get an online link to share/use. Can also download the full video to slice and dice as needed. Camera can record about 3 matches before it runs out of space and battery (approx 6 hours depending on temp)

It isn’t cheap, around $1500 for camera and stand and $100/mo for the subscription service (more for club level subscription), but it’s a simple and effective system.

Is the film quality good? Do the players have to wear some kind of sensors? Can it livestream?

No livestream, it’s two camera lens capture 1/2 of the field each and the software combines into a zoomable/panable ball tracking video that is seemless. Camera records in 4k and 12 or 24 ft stand ensures a full view of the field. Players don’t wear anything, but the online UI allows the creation of highlights and such right in the film. I prefer this to systems with sensors.

This is really helpful, thanks! Everyone take note that this thread actually had a normal legitimate topic and a rational normal person was actually helpful. A first for Talking Soccer!

I see they have a 23 foot tripod. How does that work with wind? Anyone use that?

It needs weights/sandbags for stability, but you can just lower it to 12 or 18 to ensure it stays upright. You have 24ft, but you don’t need to use it all. Can also choose the smaller stand.

I had a bad experience with Trace. Most of the individual sensors did not work, so half the kids on the team didn't get any footage. This was over 3 games at a tournament. Trace had to refund our money.

Had teammates dad use it in March tourney with very strong winds. Slight bounce in video at peak winds and the sound element was all wind, you couldn’t hear parents or team as you usually would. Overall still a great video despite high wind. The sand bags that some one else mentioned were more essential than usual that day.

Are there any other systems that should be considered besides these three?

We had a bad experience with Trace 2 years ago. While it worked fine, the overall quality was poor. None of it was really useful for compiling into highlight videos. Very grainy when watching fullscreen. Maybe they've improved that since, but we vowed never to pay for it again. We now use veo and that works well enough.

While the benefits of manless operation is appealing, I have wondered whether it would be more cost effective and better quality to just get a 4k or 8k cam, split amongst the team.

Our club uses Trace and I am grateful to pay for it since I do not have to film anymore.
I used to film for years, but I now I can fully enjoy the game. Yes, your player has to wear a sensor. Trace slices "moments" of action for your player and give stats. You can also fully review the game and create your own moments. You can share the clips via Trace
or download and create your own highlights.

There are some false positives and sometimes it misses action, but overall, I trust it
enough where I do not set up my camera (I leave it in the car or hotel just for emergencies).
Also, saves me hours trying to find and create highlights. Worth every penny for me.

Do you find that Trace highlights are sufficient quality to send to coaches? We found it not to be.

I had a mixed experience with Trace. At first, I was blown away by the Trace AI bot's ability to follow the game but the stats it captures (max efforts, stamina, distance, top speed, minutes played) are not really any help for coaches trying to fine tune their teams AND the radar, which shows the players positions on the field, is frustratingly inaccurate including being 4 to 5 seconds slower than the video so it is useless. Some of the players really hated wearing the tracers, too, especially the older kids (17-18). I have gone back and forth with Trace support trying to convince them to just synch the GPS data time to the video time but they wouldn't have it even after I spent hours compiling supporting evidence. My Trace subscription is up this September and I will be moving to Veo. The Trace video quality for night or overcast games also sucked. The only time the video was decent was if the sun was behind the camera on a cloudless day. Prior to Trace, I used to setup two 4K cameras and manually compile, splice, upload, and analyze game video which took 10 hours per week per game so i feel i still came out ahead for the $3800/year.
