(East Brunswick, N.J. — April 29, 2021) EDP Soccer, the largest youth soccer league and tournament organizer in the East Region as well as manager of four US Youth Soccer (USYS) National League Conferences, has announced that it will be expanding cooperative efforts during the 2021/2022 soccer year with leagues from five (5) State Associations in the East Region to provide more opportunities for youth clubs and their teams and players.

During the 2020/2021 soccer year, the North Atlantic Conference of the USYS National League, which includes top level competitive teams from Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) and Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA), included over 300 highly competitive teams. Clubs and teams from all leagues affiliated with USYS and the ENYYSA and CJSA State Associations can apply to participate in the North Atlantic Conference. The majority of teams come from the New York Club Soccer League (NYCSL), a division of the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL).

Gary Grossman, President of NYCSL, proposed to Jen Marcella, EDP Soccer Director of Leagues, and Don Rawson, EDP Soccer Executive Director of Events and Facilities, that additional programming be offered to clubs, teams, and players in ENYYSA as well as from other State Associations.

The results of these discussions are plans to launch the following opportunities during the 2021/2022 soccer year:

Six (6) new tournaments: Three (3) to be held in partnership with World Class FC’s at the Orangetown Soccer Field Complex (Orangeburg, NY) and three (3) to be held at SUSA’s Orlin & Cohen Sports Complex (Central Islip, NY). EDP Soccer has engaged International Sports Events (ISE) to manage on site logistics. Teams from all USYS State Associations as well as teams from other youth soccer registration platforms can apply to participate in these events. Additional information will be posted May 15th at www.isportingevents.com/tournaments and www.nyclubsoccerleague.com/

The EDP Soccer Leagues Cup Championships: Teams that win their league cup in their respective competition will earn the opportunity to advance to compete against the other league cup champions to become the winner of the EDP Soccer League Cup Championships. The following organizations have committed to the 2021/2022 EDP Soccer Leagues Cup Championships: NYCSL and EDP Soccer associated leagues in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. The semifinals and final of the EDP Soccer League Cup Championships will be held in New Jersey in mid-June. Additional information will be posted June 1st at www.nyclubsoccerleague.com/ and www.edpsoccer.com/

Jen Marcella commented on the cooperative efforts: “EDP Soccer’s primary responsibility in Eastern New York is to ensure that clubs and their teams applying for and earning a spot in the North Atlantic Conference of the USYS National League have a best-in-class experience. We work closely with ENYYSA and all the leagues in ENYYSA to make this happen. Naturally, EDP Soccer was enthusiastic when Gary Grossman, representing NYCSL, suggested that there were more opportunities to provide clubs and their teams with meaningful activities as part of the pathway to the National League. It’s this type of cooperative spirit that enhances youth soccer.”

Don Rawson added: “Working together with leagues, clubs, and teams to serve youth soccer players and their families is what inspires everyone at EDP Soccer to be the best place to play soccer. The additional programming to be offered in the 2021/2022 soccer year is a great example of NYCSL recognizing that its members and members of other leagues can benefit from new initiatives that create additional developmental and competitive experiences.”

In summarizing the plans being announced, Gary Grossman noted: “NYCSL’s clubs and teams have enjoyed competing in the North Atlantic Conference of the USYS National League, as have I’m sure clubs and teams from other ENYYSA and CJSA leagues. So, it made sense to reach out to EDP Soccer to see if they would apply their expertise and resources to provide even more playing opportunities for youth players in ENYYSA and the East Region. While the teams from different leagues compete on the fields of play, everyone supporting youth soccer — both volunteers and paid staff of clubs — realizes that cooperating to provide the best developmental activities for our youth players is what counts. These new initiatives demonstrate that type of cooperation.”
