Shouldn't club fees be publicly disclosed?

Once you do the secret handshake, and answer a riddle......then maybe the club will tell you how much they charge. What's your experience?

If you have to ask you can’t afford it.

In my experience we get this thing called a contract each year that spells it all out.

Even golf clubs post their initiation fee and yearly fees on their websites.

Yes. This is just one of the consumer abusive practices in youth soccer

Only MA club who does, that I know of, is AFC.

Should they? Probably and some do but details matter in order to compare apples to apples - how many practices a week, how many tournaments and where (so you know about travel costs), are uniforms included (and if not how much?). But they'd like to get a look at your kid and vice versa before they do a hard sell. There's also lots of deals made for players they really want.

Just call them up, tell them you're interested in looking at the club and ask them! It's not mysterious. Many service companies don't post their rates/prices.

No deals are cut until they've seen your kid, so if you call and ask it's full sticker price at first. Some clubs will only give financial assistance if you prove you qualify, others will discount for a desirable player or much needed GK .

Look, worse comes to worse you ask and they say no.

I have an agreement for a lawn service to come and fertilize, spray for tickets, etc. I know what I pay. I have no idea what other customers pay. The rates are not listed on their website.

Should I be demanding they publicize their rates on their webpage? What if they say "No"?

I can accept that, or leave.

Terrible analogy. Your lawn is very different from your neighbor's lawn. It would be impossible for landscape companies to publish anything other than an hourly labor rate.

How about this for a better analogy: check out any university and see if tuition costs are listed.

I technically agree with you. However, my question would be, if these clubs are listed as non-profits don't they have an obligation that is different than a lawn care company. I don't know the rules of a non-profit to be honest...but I would think there would be some requirements for fair pricing to receive the benefits of being a non-profit.

Actually, no. They send me a standard list of rates every spring. No idea if it's the same rate.

But, to use your point - yes, every lawn is different. So is every player.

Same with the University. Sure, they post their standard tuition, but what every student pays is different.

It’s not quite that simple. Teams are different within clubs, practice volume is different, tournaments are different, uniforms may be different, leagues are different. A club would have to itemize a menu for each scenario which would be a mess.
