Youth soccer a rich white sport

Hope Solo is spot on. At least PDA is doing something about it. Other clubs in NJ not so much.

Good initiative but the crowds playing at Zarephath, especially on the girls side, does not scream diversity. You would think polo is being played on these fields and not the most played sport in the world. Lots of talented players throughout the state that don’t have access to the pay for play spots secured at PDA.

Hopefully they are now seeing this as a problem.

The pay to play system excludes so many minorities especially on the girls side. At least PDA has some women coaches involved unlike other clubs that are fully white male, kudos to them for taking some initiative to diversify!

Some women coaches. Nearly none. I’d hardly say PDA is diverse.

So what really. They made a successful business venture with youth soccer as the product like many other youth sports. Don't think they care at all about race but they obviously engineered everything to ensure the customer base is well off. Youth sports are a multi billion dollar a year business because there are lots of customers who buy it.

              2 things

1.) PDA did not do this out of the kindness of their heart. They are looking for talent lain and simple.

2.) Most people I know are not "rich". Sure a few are and some disgustingly so but a majority are hard working middle class and some poor single mothers and even a set of grandparents raising their grand kid. Just because some people sacrifice extra spending and even creative balancing of bills so their kid can play doesn't mean they are rich.

To a low income player that is not coming up with the thousands to play in a high travel top league, the players seems rich.

Half the families in america survive on less than 75 K. These players are not flying around on planes to play youth soccer.

PDA do need more female coaches, especially on the girls side, nearly none right now.

Not just minorities, poor kids cannot afford the pay to play system.

Let’s not anoint PDA with Sainthood. The inner city initiative was driven by a prominent minority parent interested in giving back to underprivileged communities. I applaud the individual not the club.

It was and you could argue by and for those in the immediate vicinity of Somerset and Hunterdon counties. Perception is reality. You go on a typical day to Zarephath to see practices and the immediate observation is this is not a diverse set of people playing and coaching the game, but like someone else posted it’s not just about race but also about finances. Not every kid there is well off and there are parents making big sacrifices to participate in this club.

Everything at PDA is not about what happens on the field and the crew that makes sure checks are sent out to Patty in Bernardsville is not diverse at all.

I think it’s more about good PR and recruitment rather than talent identification. They aren’t going to start throwing scholarships around from this. When they start running a low to no cost program, not clinics, out of a lower income area then I’ll be impressed.

Nobody cares about your WOKE anti white rhetoric. Go post all this bull**** elsewhere. My wife and I work hard and we are proud that we can spend our money however the hell we want to. You won’t find a bunch of leftist communist posting on a basketball forum that their sport is a
a poor black sport will you? Take your identity politics and piss off wanker.
