    ECRL vs GA

Looking at both options and get the sense they are about the same in terms of level of play. An ECRL club is telling us the league and competition is better than GA but to us they seem about even. Any thoughts on best path for college exposure between these two options?

They are pretty similar overall but obviously training quality can vary by which clubs are in your area. Training quality matters most so don't go to a weak Club in X league just because it's in that league. Both have good and bad.. ECLR is newer an hard to gauge in terms of college exposure. GAL still gets coach interest but time will tell if that sticks (the league has weakened badly with players and clubs leaving for ECNL).

ECRL is newer? It's just rebranded NE NPL with the added benefit of 1 national event.

ECRL was established long before GAL. And has more of a path and better quality than GAL. Some GAL clubs already made the upgrade move to ECRL.

ECRL has already surpassed GA as the clear second option to ECNL. Clubs like PDA Shore would beat most age groups if they played CSA GA for example, but that’s a small sampling.

You never ever want your kid to be second team at a club, so IMHO if you have both options go to the club where your kid will be on the top team.

I’m not sure I agree. Being 2nd team gives the player something to work for- move up. Unless the club doesn’t work that way.

Being on PDA Shore ECRL is being on top team for that branch which is still 10x better than DA, GA or whatever it’s called these days.

In MOST ecnl clubs it doesn’t work that way. In my years as a parent in youth soccer I have seen existing club second team players be continually and routinely passed over when a player of the same caliber or less comes in from the outside. The outside player is always put onto the top team. It’s just the way it works - it’s a business and the outside player brings in extra money they already have money from existing player. Happens all the time....

My D was on her club's 2nd team for 6 years and was very happy. Is now on the roster of a top D3 soccer program at a strong academic college, so it got her where she wanted to go.

You have a very smart well adjusted daughter. Your daughter had a plan and knew that she could use her soccer to get into a strong academic college and continue to play soccer at a competitive level. That is what I call a win/win. I bet she loves both. Congratulations. Too bad more players/parents don’t recognize D3 and the great balance between academics and athletics.

Both are relatively new. Teams in MA and NE GA tend to be better then NA and NE ECRL. Still depends on training as each club and vary greatly and even vary between ECNL and RL teams.

I won't vouch for everywhere and every team, but ours (not in NJ) we had two players move over to my kid's team who split time between their ECNL and ECNLR teams, and there is no comparison to our GA club and ECNLR. ECNLR was quite poor, actually. GA is more akin to the mid-lower level ECNL teams, across the board (excluding outliers, to be sure).
