Meghan Klingenberg is radiating joy on the pitch and elevating amazing players off it

Meghan Klingenberg won a FIFA World Cup with the U.S. women’s national team in 2015, and although she isn’t in the national team player pool anymore, she has continued to elevate her game and grow as a player.

The Equalizer talked with the Portland Thorns defender on her 10th season in the NWSL, her Portland Thorns club and the podcast she is co-hosting called My New Favorite Futbolista, which highlights some of the amazing journeys of some players currently at the World Cup.

“For me, soccer isn’t about winning or losing anymore,” Klingerberg said of her definition of success. “It’s about helping me fulfill my purpose, having fun, chasing excellence, [and] radiating joy. To me, that’s what this is all about… Just being able to step out on the pitch is a blessing, in my opinion. I’ve been incredibly lucky compared to a lot of people my age, being healthy and being able to still stay on the pitch and play in front of fans who really love to watch us play and love watching me play, in a community that really supports the women’s game.”
