‘It feels like we lost’: Frustrated Canada drop points against Nigeria

MELBOURNE, Australia – Canada’s performance against Nigeria wasn’t good enough and it cost them an opportunity to start the World Cup with three points.

Canada wasn’t clinical going forward. Passes weren’t crisp, execution wasn’t there, and defensively, they allowed Nigeria several quality scoring opportunities.

The Canadians looked like a team that came into the World Cup having only played four games this year. Canada was lucky to escape with a draw and a single point.

There was disappointment on the faces of players as they walked through the postgame mix zone. They wanted more from their opening game, but Nigeria had other ideas.

“It feels like we dropped points,” Kailen Sheridan said postgame. “It feels like we lost. I think we wanted more from ourselves, but ultimately there was a lot of good things we want to take away. We have an incredible team and I know we’ll bounce back.”
