A temporary field hospital for use by people unable to isolate and recover from COVID-19 in their own homes will be located at a soccer field in Shoreline, a city spokesman said.

The Shoreline Temporary Field Hospital, at 19030 First Ave N.E., will provide up to 200 beds, according to the city’s website. It will house “people exposed to, at risk of exposure, or becoming ill with the novel coronavirus,” according to the city website.

“It’s basically to relieve pressure on the hospitals and to free up beds for critical patients,” said Eric Bratton, a city spokesman. The hospital will be on a turf soccer field that is on school district property but is leased by the city, Bratton said.

“My understanding is they’re setting it up now, but they’re not anticipating using it or occupying it for another week or so,” Bratton said.

King County is creating field hospitals at several locations for people who cannot remain in their own homes or do not have a home, according to the Shoreline website.

King County did not immediately respond to a request for comment and more information.

“King County needs to site facilities that will create 3,000 additional medical beds for King County. It is anticipated that the Shoreline Temporary Field Hospital will be able to provide up to 200 beds. The Shoreline site will be able to serve ill individuals from Shoreline and patients from the greater Puget Sound Region,” the city’s website says.

Yup. This will be difficult news for SU. Hopefully they can find other locations, but this is a temporary field hospital, so maybe be the time soccer can resume, the hospital will be gone anyway

Least of our worries as there will not be soccer any time soon, but this is not SU's main field and they have access to dozens of fields across the City. Guarantee there is zero heart burn over the potential of losing these fields for SU.

I for one would like to see the county start filling up the hotel they paid millions for last week for just this thing. As I understand it their one infected patient walk out of there this weekend and jumped on a bus (you can't make this stuff up) and it's been vacant sense then except for a skeleton staff.

If numbers continue to multiply as projected, it will be filled. We would be lucky to have the luxury to call any of these measures mistakes 4-6 weeks from now, because that would mean our healthcare system isn't collapsing

That will fill up soon enough, and the county also just bought another motel in Issaquah for the same purpose. Hospital beds aren’t yet at full capacity but they soon will be with another 175 new cases in WA today and the effects of social distancing to reduce the growth rate unlikely to really kick in for another week or so, at best.

If we do not flatten that curve, those fields will be wartime triage fields. Stay safe.
