I haven't seen full metal for a while. I still see ceramic tipped, aluminum tipped plastic and plastic. My guess is very few kids will have them unless they come from a place that rains alot and has grass.
IFAB has no current law. IFAB is concerned with safety in how the law is written so its really about a studs that are sharp, craked, or boogered up. These would be unsafe and should not be allowed by the ref, regardless of the league rule on metal...
If it's true Washington does not allow you metal that's a local league rule, just like high school, NCAA, AYSO.

In light of the last few topics that were field related I'll add this to the mix.
ECNL added 60 + teams to the Champions League games over last year. They also added ECRL games into the same event.
There will be over 600 games played on 24 fields in a place that gets rain 180 days a year. So if you ever go to Surf Cup or Norco events and are disappointed at the fields on by day 4 just wait.
When I looked at it the U15 Round of 16 final that is played on field 1 this particular game will be the 35th game played on that field. I doubt the fields will last that long.
ECNL had to take fields out of commission in Florida Nationals last year because of drainage and being torn up. The result was canceling games that didn't send teams to Virginia and trying to prioritize games that would have scout attendance. .
I hope they are contingency planning or at least thinking through 'what ifs" . I'll be there with a whistle this year. I havent seen the fields but based on what i've heard there are a handful of us officials that think the U13, U14 games could get end up stopping the end of group play, which is 3 games which would leave ECNL scrambling with the DOCs of the 16 teams on how they are going to manage 16 teams in Virginia vs. the original 8.

Hanging up my whistle on 6/28 after 26 years.

Not saying these are right/wrong.... but would be nice to see the logic. No justification to SOS or rankings. Show your work. We can agree and disagree on your work, but until there is anything to even look at... this is just random nonsense.

I hope you're wrong but it is certainly a lot of teams on that many fields. How well 60 acre's drains, I do not know. Luckily the forecast looks mostly good from here on out, so I am hoping/praying that while maybe not pristine. at least playable / consistent fields will be the order of the day.

Nobody wants teams/coaches/parents walking away blaming the fields, referee's or otherwise. Hope there is just a good level playing field.

There will be 372 teams in Seattle.
            52 U13 teams
            52 U14 teams
            50 U15 teams
            98 U16 teams
            98 U17 teams
            22 U18/9 teams

I just looked at the team list compared to last year..
+40 new teams were added for RL champs
+28 new teams to U13. There were only 16 last year and in prior years U13 was not invited.
+12 teams each age bracket for for U14-U17 Champions league - they went from 32 to 44 each age.

The schedule shows 24 fields in use and a quick look confirms what the previous poster stated.. over 600 games being played.

.. wow. crossing finger this whole thing goes smoothly .

I took a walk around the fields yesterday, they are the perfect looking shade of green when you arrive and there is no standing water etc, I did some poking with my finger and they are too soft IMO.

i dont see how they survive.

Would be good for them to have turf available on standby

Good news there are so many turf field right around that area that the games can moved very quickly. I am sure US Club did their research and has a plan B.

They won't move games because there are so many college coaches attending. It can rain every day and the fields will be a lot better than the fields we played in at playoffs last year in Florida or the Showcase in Houston. Those games were not moved. ECNL players have had a year of playing on horrible muddy sloppy fields.

Agree, but they did cancel some games at Florida nationals and they did move the remaining U13 team that had games left to play in Florida to Virginia.
Someone mentions that above. My kid was U13 and we didn't make it out of the brackets in Florida and I was thankful because the U13 age group was supposed to finish up in Florida. ECNL had all those families fly home and then back to VA few weeks later.
Glad to have escaped that financial disaster for a 13yo. Florida playoff fields were bad towards the end even thought they are built for rapid draining. The top dressing is bad, buy they don't bloat and hold water too bad. But- it was a mess.
I suspect these fields are going be worse either due to the increased number or games played, or just because they were constructed differently (soil vs. sand)

Glad to see they got at least a mow in the grass is short..

They are picture perfect. Just too soft. Let’s hope todays rain was the last.
