I think inequality has nothing to do with it. I would actually say rich kids are worse off in soccer because culturally they believe paying 100 dollars an hour for a private coach to watch them run cones once a week would make them good. In reality free soccer in a back alley played from sun up to sun down with the only ball you own would provide a better foundation.

However, in the US the community of players that play backyard or back alley ball is far different unless you go to a strong hispanic neighborhood where soccer still remains the top sport. In the US it is sadly still 3rd or 4th and I am not sure there are a lot of neighborhoods where kids go out and play competitive soccer together.
Soccer is the cheapest sport in the world next to running. Actually as I type that. Soccer you can play barefoot without shoes. So all you need is a ball. Running probably requires 200 dollar nikes. :)
I bet if you average the salaries made by poor kids in professional soccer vs the salaries made by middle class American kids, the data should show the poor kids end up doing better dollar for dollar and in aggregate. Obviously I can't prove that data so it's just a hunch and I could be wrong. But soccer generates billions of dollars around the world and lots of the pros seem to come from poor regional neighborhoods that then get called up in larger clubs that start funding their fees which then generates a pro contract worth millions. American middle class kids on multi million dollar contracts are pretty rare even though they have access to lots of money spent on training.

Interesting debate, I really don't think money can buy you skills in soccer sure you can become an expert at running cones and do some sick instagram videos where you show off your jugging and discuss how you are always “grinding” but the reality is none of those skills relate to the real deal top flight game. These skills can only be developed under the flow and pressures of the game in live conditions. Artificial foot skills only retard the genuine flow of the beautiful game.
I laugh at how poor the quality of instruction is in private lessons I see. the kids who pay for this crap would be better off starting a standing pick up game at a random park on Friday nights and learning how to live and play soccer. It’s pretty easy for a parent to Venmo some cash to a coach and check the mental box that my kids is doing everything possible when the reality is the kid doesn’t seek out genuine play because they don’t really love soccer. There just there for the instagram bs.
look at Clint Dempsey he played all day in a trailer park no private lessons he just loved soccer and was athletically good enough to make it. No secret sauce just a little luck when he got his shot.
Every kid playing in the RCL has more than enough opportunity to make it. Weather they do just comes down to what they were born with athletically and how much do they want it. The opportunity is there.
