    Tracking Cameras: Veo, Trace, etc.

Seeing more and more game tracking cameras on the sidelines. Anyone have opinions on best options for youth soccer teams?

Great for stats. Bad for a highlight video feature your player . Your players is to far away to show the action of your player. But it is better than nothing.

Trace is so mediocre. Wouldn’t recommend until older ages at all.

Veo is pretty good. It’s a high quality video file so you can download and edit, zoom in, etc.

VEO is a great product, although expensive. I would push your club into investing one if they don't have it. Also if parents can pool money together, purchasing a team veo is a great idea as well. I think this is just the beginning, we should be seeing more competition in this market soon, Prices will come down and features will get better.

As mentioned, it is horrible for highlight videos. Not sure if there is really anything made for highlights, for those you have to go with a basic camcorder that allows you to zoom a bit.

We have used trace for a couple of years and found it to be easy to use. Makes pretty good clips, Found that coaches and players really like to watch the game highlights and whole game films.
Family members and friends could also watch games.

We found veo harder to use, Not friendly to share films and clips.

I share a Veo with a couple other teams. The video quality is better than Trace but doesn't have the same ability to break out players quite like Trace does because Trace utilizes individual GPS tracking on players while VEO just tracks the ball. There is a guide you can buy that offers a lot of helpful advice. It's called the Veo Rookie Guide. You can also purchase add on apps like Key Frame to do more individual breakdowns. We have had a certain amount of problems with Veo in that there was a 6 week delay during the summer in them just sending us the camera. Then it malfunctioned in the first tournaments we used it in didn't film two of the matches I had and the other coaches had the same problems. We had to send it back to Denmark while they loaned us an older model. The first game I filmed with it looked like it was on some psychedelic drug. I sent the video back to Tech Support in India and they were able to salvage it. Mostly has worked ok although in my last match it only recorded 12 minutes for some reason. We've walked down the aisle so will probably stick with it but we haven't been that impressed by the support and general function of the camera. That being said, it has been very helpful having video to review and make coaching points to players. It's amazing what you miss in a game that video catches. You can't watch every player but for the most part, the camera does.

Also, Veo now has a "live feed" camera, so the game can be broadcast (but you have to upgrade from the current camera). So for travel teams it's a great money saver for parents as they don't all have to travel to every event to watch their kid.

Veo tracks the ball, but you can release that feature and get a 180 degree view of the field so you can see what players are doing off the ball.

Lastly, their tech support is ridiculously responsive. I get emails back in minutes. Great product.

Trace’s marketing motto should be “Well, it’s better than nothing.”

we found Trace to be much easier to use than Veo. Plus it is really nice to get the break down of the game the next morning.

The market will get better. I hope some Chinese companies flood the market with lower end products, driving down costs. The companies that work with the professional companies hopefully will make consumer end products as well.

This is still a fairly new market, it will get better. Video recording is really catching on. I bet not just in soccer, basketball, football, etc

Agreed in theory but we have had crazy issues with getting it to work properly. We average 3-4 kids a game where it doesn’t register and it misses a fairly large chunk of plays.

Veo is expensive but it's good, around 1500 for the camera and then a yearly subscription which is about 1000. also it only stores 3 games and then you have to do a long uploading process off the camera that takes several hours (no removable storage card). overall it works very well though. if your club or team can get together and buy one I'd recommend it.

Having watched a few of my sons games on Trace (other team's camera) the video quality is so sub par I wouldn't pay for it. I really don't know how much value is in the tracking tech for youth soccer. It is a hard no for me.
