Summit has more state championships in the last 10 years than Jesuit. Should they be in their own league?

Summit is a public school with a fixed attendance boundary.

But they win a lot so why should schools that don't win a lot have to compete against them?

Most of Summit's titles were won playing in a 5A league with a population greater than many 6A schools. They were given a geography exemption which allowed them to beat up on smaller schools.

We get it. Every team other than your daughter's has an unfair advantage.

Thank you for correcting the false narrative spun by Jesuit dad with facts. Additionally 70 percent of players on the girls varsity team did not come from a catholic feeder school. Add to this there isn’t a single player on the varsity team who isn’t spending at least $5k+ on soccer training at club level and private. You can’t say this about public school teams. It’s great these kids are so privileged to have the family finances to afford an $18k/yr education and $20k spent over past four years on soccer training, but this cannot be said for all kids attending public schools. There should be some equity afforded in public HS sports. By placing Jesuit in a bracket with OES/Catlin/St Mary’s, , etc the playing field would be leveled. Yes it may mean Jesuit forms two varsity teams or they simply don’t cut seniors.

Yes, but it is unfair for teams to have to go out there and play I high
altitude which those players are used to.

Just saying if you are going cry there is always something to cry about

Again you say stuff that you know nothing about. Jesuit has at least one player on varsity who does not play club soccer and at least 4 players who did not play last year.

Go write a grievance to OSAA or just go to the trophy store and order a medal for your daughter.

What I don’t get is people complaining that they can all get their kids on the team by buying them into the school then the same people are crying about seniors getting cut. Should pick a story and stick to it

Agree that the private schools should have their own league. What can all the public school parents do to make this happen for the better for public school kids?

You claim that it is better for public school students to have less competition? Great thinking, it's no wonder some parents choose private schools. We should also have one class for each senior, that way they can all be valedictorians. Keep Portland public schools weird.

Soon, 80% of the college recruits would be coming out of the private school league and people would be crying foul.

This is on the table and just needs a little push.

I for one would love to see it happen. The whole creepy religious priest stuff turns my stomach.
Do they really still have priests at schools? I thought that after Catholic Church dudes were playing hide the you know what with alter boys they shut that down?

Have the conversation with your athletics director and have him petition osaa to make the change. If you apply an equity lens to athletics it’s a no brainer to move Jesuit into a group with other private schools. If they don’t budge, educate your coach and your player and have them just forfeit the Jesuit match.

No one was screaming unfair that the private schools have an advantage when Tualatin won 3 in a row

These poor kids, their parents would rather quit (forfelt). But they do know how to quit (forfeit) with style, using terms like "equity lens". It is funny that you need to "educate" the kids and coach to quit (forfeit). You can't have it both ways, quitter (forfeit) parents. You want your kid to be on a good team, but it would be too hard for your kid to make the soccer team at Jesuit. Better to just not try. Through an equity lens, that is.
