Respectfully. While Cony may be emphasising futsal this winter, the general observations about hit it long are spot on. Outdoor he chastises players for back passes saying go forward and he yells "SHOOT, SHOOT the ball" anytime a player gets into the attacking 1/3. Whatever judgment one wishes to attach to these observations, you are entitled to that opinion. But these are just accounts of real life observations.

Another real life observation he was never tasked with actually coaching day to day those future MLS players mentioned in prior posts, the club had a stable of coaches back then working with the future pros. The staff changed. But, the players and club did do something no club will ever match and Cony was indeed the DOC during that era, so creating the culture for players and teams with these kind of products is something to give him credit for, regardless of his observed sideline antics of today.

Expect teams to leave the alliance soon.

Someone explain to me the benefit of the alliance for the clubs?

I really would like to know. I've been coaching at an alliance club and can tell you that no one knows any real benefit for us.

If you think he is any more you are drinking the koolaid.

And you are the number one issue with youth soccer in Oregon. A clueless wonder that thinks everyone should hear his opinion. You are just an Ass trying to stir up issues with a clear issue against FC.

I am not saying FC is any better then Westside or any other club. All clubs have some good coaches and some bad. No club has it all correct. Thats the way it is and the way it will always be. Get off your high horse and stop being an ASS
Hey I'm not the previous poster but gotta say that we need to stay positive in support of all the clubs. Good people at every one of them. Sports keep kids out of trouble and many of them do better in school.

I do need to pipe in about Cony since I've known him a long time. I've known a few of other DOCs, some gone (RIP, Clive) and others still active.

You call him a "club level coach" yet he's enough of a coach that FIFA (FIFA/CONCACAF) has been sending him around the world since 2005 to train professional coaches. He's enough of a coach to be extremely active in the professional futsal league.

Not saying he's better than any of the other coaches, just saying that he still has credibility and can still coach. Here's to great youth soccer experiences.

Thank you for a positive and helpful post! Too much bashing is no good for OR soccer.

Not necessarily so. He coaches teams differently based on what he knows they are capable of doing. My son learned his systems, and also occasionally got the "shoot the ball" comment because he could shoot the ball and would sometimes pass early or play around with it too much and lose it. Sometimes Cony would say it just to be funny.

When Cony arrived at Westside, he was coaching the final couple of youth soccer years for another future MLS-signor, Chad Barrett.

He did coach the teams the players mentioned were on. He was the HC and had ACs. The club told him he had to spend more time working with other teams, so he had to back off.

Chad Barrett played for the WSM Rangers team that was never once coached by Cony.. Hurtado did play for Cony as a pee wee...the other future pros didnt have him as their Team head coach..he was indeed the club DOC though for sure. Just to clarify the strange history posted on this site.

Actually, Cony took over Rangers for Mike.
Check with Chad. He even came back and trained with the men's team, Field 2. Cony as trainer and coach.

Monty coached the team with Hurtado and Mwanga before he left for MLS Super Draft. Cony was there too. Cony also alternated coaching Rubio's team. Plenty of training and grueling beach/park workouts with Cony.

The point is that all those players alongside of their other talented teammates, benefitted from excellent coaches and an excellent DOC.

John Bain took over the Rangers after the former coach left town Cony wasnt even in Oregon during this time. Ask Chad .
