    Simply bad for the game.

Doesn't mean that the Timbers/Thorns academy is good or bad or that the people working for them are good or bad.
Kinda of like the NFL, NHL & MLB ensuring that the NBA Trailblazers our are only (recognized) pro sports monopoly in Portland, it's so disgusting It's simply bad , I couldn't agree more.

When does the MLS single entity platform become relevant in american sports landscape?

    Can't wait.

You need to realize you just lumped in every MLS Youth Academy program.

So now this is bad for the game. FC Dallas and the USMNT u17 team might take issue with you.

You lost me. 1. Trailblazers don't profit from running youth basketball in this state; 2. they also don't run their own academies . . .

they also don't ask for a pat on the back for taking the profits they make in #1 to pay for #2.

FC Dallas doesn't have a monopoly in Texas and they don't profit from running Texas leagues.

They have focused from day 1 on building a good academy. One of the reasons their team has been filled for homegrown players for a number of years.

Timbers seem to be have been more focused on the commercial side when it came to youth soccer. It has offset much of the expense of running their academies . . . but it has some down sides.

            $125 tryouts x 45 kids $5600 tryouts charged.

            Travel cost 6 trips x 16 kids x $500 cost = $48,000 cost.

Looks like families are paying for travel.

So parents have been paying for travel? Big deal. Nothing is free.

            So what. Just move on.

They(FC Dallas) profit from the sale of Texas youth league products when the get sold abroad the transfer transfer fees go to the single entity MLS/FC Dallas.

That's called the commercial side of things and the South Texas local clubs get shut out instead FC Dallas gets pd?

South Texas youth soccer gets nothing and FC Dallas & MLS get paid off the efforts of local non-profit clubs that developed the players.

Timbers aren't making any monies off our local kids (becoming pros) like the other academies. They built a different model to provide service to our remedial state. They are here to help us get on our feet since we blow up everything we touch. See OPL.....

It's just how things work in this bass ackward country when it comes to soccer.

Yes the thorns parents pay for travel for players and coaches, but money doesn't grow on trees. the thorns pro team has really low salaries so you think they would pay them more if they had free money laying around from hot dog sales or McD sponsorship.

Thorns Academy parents don’t have to worry about paying for travel. Unlike the rest of us.

Good for them! Go Thorns!! Bring home the NWSL Shield to the Rose City!

So what? If parents pay for all or most of the travel and for coaches to travel and have a couple drinks in the hotel lounge so what? That's how it works at almost every club.

if the thorns win this weekend do they get a bonus for winning? There won't be much money since they only expect 800 or so people at the game but a gift card for fred meyers to buy groceries or something would be a nice gestures. pay for them is low low low.

Oh brother - benevolent Timbers stepped in to save Oregon club soccer? So now that youth soccer has been saved they are going to step out?

Not sure what FC Dallas has to do with this discussions. Youth soccer clubs should get training compensation and solidarity payments; they don't. Doesn't have anything to do with this perverse set-up in Oregon.

To be honest, attempting to compare what our local neighborhood clubs are able to do with parent funding vs. a corporate sports giant like Peregrine is not a discussion.

Timbers DA hasn't charged the boys in 6 seasons with any 'new costs' . Why would you think the girls Thorns DA parents would need to get ready for new costs in the future?

Still stuck in local pay to travel model where costs inflate year after year and you literally play for nothing more than a travel size hotel shampoo bottle and free mixed nuts samples.
Timbers and Thorns are professional? Who knew?

Timbers/Thorns are rotten bananas? Don't think they're quite that good.

Want to change that? Hire coaches that can attract top players and form a loyalty to your club-change the local club culture. A task that the current crop of youth flunkies can't even entertain.
"Leader"? Or "Lemming"? We all know which the Timbers/Thornz are.

Hopefully there will be some Fred Meyer gift cards or maybe they can pack up the unsold hotdogs and pass them out with squeeze packets of ketchup and mustard.
