There is a minimum GPA for these athletes to get into college in the first place.

Also, you are talking about a few athletes per year that drop out of school there first year.
To get into college from HS isn't that tough or require anything more that meeting the minimum NCAA eligibility standard. The GPA of 1 or 2 term student athletes at the one and done schools is not even worth mentioning http://www.espn.com/30for30/film?page=OneAndNotDone

Do you have any idea how low the standards are to get into college?

Kids curenntly in college had to meet this embarrassing standard
Here are the NCAA D1 requirements for athlete graduating in the class of 2013, 2014 or 2015.
You must graduate from high school
You must complete 16 core courses and receive a minimum GPA of 2.0 in those courses. The core course requirements are as follows 4 years of English, 3 years of Math (Algebra 1 or higher), 2 years of Natural or Physical Science, 2 years of Social Science, 1 extra year of English, Math or Science and 4 years of Religion, Philosophy, Foreign Language or additional years of any of the categories above.
You must take the SAT or ACT and score a minimum of 400 on the SAT (Math and Reading only) or 37 on the ACT (your sum score). GPA Calculator.
Your core course GPA combined with your SAT/ACT score must meet the minimum requirements as laid out by the NCAA Sliding Scale (please go to the bottom of this page to see the complete sliding scale).

US Soccer will make a mess of womens soccer like they did with men.

Take the joy out of the game.
      Make it a job.
Take away the fun and pride of playing for school.
Nobody cares or comes to your game.
Extensive time away from home and homework and family.

Clubs without any vision or development plan, armed with only the dogma of how to 'pimp' players at a crazy cost to parents will suck the life and joy out of the serious soccer player. Chasing the elusive preferred walk on status, for a cost of $50K.

Taking the joy out of the game.
Make it a job am single mission of getting to play in any college.
Take away the fun and pride of playing for school, with it's showcase date conflicts.
Nobody cares or comes to your game, same ole same ole.
Extensive time away from home and homework and family, not for Oregonians only those that can afford family travel will join those clubs.

Aren't the top athletes in track and field? They seem to be able to run faster, jump further and higher, throw things further etc. than anybody else.

Actually what happened with Title IX and scholarships is that the numbers needed to even out. The numbers are so disproportionate due to football that many men's programs were simply eliminated to achieve balance rather than starting new women's programs. Soccer was a great sport for the women's side because it (a) requires a fairly large team (which is good for numbers); and (b) is relatively cheap to support. The demographics are too too because most of those young women were off to college anyway so eligibility issues aren't a big issue.

It's just the product that is an eyesore due to this legal compromise and they no fan base. Other than the parents of the kids. So be it.

This is talking-soccer oregon, why is it we don't focus on the realities in our area? within the context of a nation as a juxtaposition example, in doing this it helps frame the discussion vs broad views that have little relevance to the state of things in Oregon.

I'm not even talking about the DA, just the simple fact that Oregon produces much higher caliber boys than girls is not an argument, it's a fact. Going to play in college for a girl is not a measure of the quality of the player it's more a response to the demand of colleges needing girls to fill spots.

Which begs the question why do we have a subsidized DA for girls + 2 local clubs struggling mightily to compete at a level close to DA when our documented talent pool doesn't give us a fighting chance. All the girls spread across 3 entities.

Why as parents must we suffer these fools (clubs).
Because we Oregon parents keep jumping at paying any price (time & money both) for the next so called elite opportunity for our little princesses. Thorns Academy could charge 5-8k per year like Ecnl costs and they'd have the same numbers they had at tryouts. They had to make it cheaper the first couple years to lure over a few Ecnlers. Even at its high cost, ecnl remains with full rosters. Until Oregon girls parents stop buying, someone will enjoy raking in the easy money. Look at all the expensive SUVs pulling into practices at Academy or Ecnl. These girls are going to college and the parents can pay full costs. That's why girls parents are elated to have spent 50k to get a preferred walk on spot at D1.

No walk on spots from CU, but they did get more than $1 million in athletic aid

whenever they interview on of the US mens national team players they all seem brain dead. They play like they are having no fun. Mostly very dull to watch.

DA is a new animal on the landscape that is subsidized in our market by US Soccer and the NWSL Thorns. It's a game changer since it's not the traditional club pay to play model. Every club in Oregon has teams with full rosters, otherwise they couldn't field a team to play. We know what these rosters are 'full' of, no doubt.

I'm sure that number is a combination of academic and athletic aid.

It just keeps getting worse and worse. Too bad for the kids.

Yes, they did get $1,000,000 in athletic aid from an anonymous parent who invested 50K in the powerball and hit the winning numbers! Nice gesture and she called it 'athletic aid' gifting.

Just look at the Thornz Asylum rosters - those are definitely FULL - just not full of good soccer players...

There are far too many college soccer spots for girls for any one program to be the only pathway. Nice that Oregon now has a partially subsidized program to add to the mix. Top players can still take just about any path and end up with similar results. All paths have pros and cons. Pick the one that suits your dd. Regardless of the path, it's really up to her.
