You have to admit it's nice to have a subsidized travel program for the girls that can't afford to travel! Soccer will finally bring out the best of the best from across the state. US Soccer and Thorns should be applauded for taking politics, bias & financial status out of the equation. Mandatory training a minimum of 4x per week like CA clubs is also going to really help our girls compete vs them for college roster spots.

It's pretty bad but in the long run no matter if the kids aren't playing against good teams hopefully they are having fun and maybe learning a few things. Like Girl Scouts summer camp.

Beaverton cup was great. There were two people there that looked like they might be college coaches. Or maybe they were somebodies uncle. They had a video camera and an air horn.

Air horn sounds about right for Beaverton cup.

If you were doubting this program, don't listen to the haters on this forum. The Thorns seem really committing to making our girls the best that they can be. As Mike Smith said, this is the most financed women's team in the entire world. It is so cool to be a part of it and see what they can do with our girls. Its going to be a GREAT year.
How is it the most financed women's team in the world? Referring to the pro team or DA? It is neither.

So what. Nobody really cares about this train wreck except the parents and grandparents. Think about when you hear people talk about volleyball, cheerleading or lacrosse. Unless it is your kid, you politely nod and fake interest. Same here. Let the parents and kids imagine it is as good as they want it to be. Move on.

Lies again, he nor anyone else had referred to it as a showcase.

True or False: It said "showcase" on the document that listed their schedule that was up on the website for a full year.

I was there. He said "we will be looking for a college showcase tournament to do this summer." The only tournament we did was Beaverton. In my book that equals a broken promise.

Yep. Time to move on from the thorns dumpster fire.

In the Trump era, the truth is negotiable.

Who know what happened two years ago with the Beaverton Cup? Maybe Eric dropped the ball and didn't register soon enough. Maybe a bunch of girls weren't available. Maybe the Thorns simply screwed up.

Whatever happened, who cares? This year, the girls are going to Surf this summer. Rest your worries about this program. Things have changed and now you can move on to other problems in your life. Stressing about things that happened in the past, to girls that aren't your daughter, is a little weird.

The issue is really about Erik and Mike's credibility. A number of things that have said about the Thorns program over the years have turned out to be untrue (i.e. all of OYSA members' supported sending their best players to Thorns Academy - most outside of Westside look pretty dimly on it; showcases, etc.).

ECNL clubs have certainly been attacked on here for "unkept" promises. Given Timbers stranglehold on this state, they should be called on the carpet when things turn out not to be true. In part because it isn't just girls on the thorns that are impacted.

Good luck to your daughter though.

You can run from your track record unfortunately. I feel bad for kids.
