If they don't an than play high school . What are they going to do not start you so you have to play off the bench. Better yet play some where else put it back in their face. Last time I checked soccer teams don't own your kids , but if you let them they will walk all over you

Only US Soccer Development Academy in Oregon goes to the NWSL Portland Thorns congrats to the new asst. Director Tobin Heath. Way to raise the bar for Women's Sports.

        and it's paid for.

What a mess. I feel sorry for the girls stuck in the program. It's not really fair.

It's ok. Nobody is worried about it so no need to bring it up. Mind your own business.

On the other hand, this is Erik Lyslo and co, and they manage to screw everything up they touch. I would personally not want to bet my kid's future college eligibility on policies made by the same folks who have run Oregon ODP into the ground, promised an academy showcase tournament and delivered Beaverton cup, etc, etc, etc....but maybe the academy parents aren't concerned about college eligibility.
Call the NCAA eligibility office. Get it in writing.

Thorns are paying for almost all expenses. That's why they "own" you. It's not a big deal. Boys DA doesn't allow high school sports and most of the serious soccer boys have gladly signed onto DA soccer. US Soccer believes high school soccer is bad for the elite soccer development of the player and increases the chance of injury.

Nobody is forcing any girls to join GDA. It will be great for the very serious soccer player that puts soccer #1. If that's not your cup of tea, don't do it. I believe this new Academy choice for our girls is a great added option. I also like ECNL as an option for those that can afford it. Club travel teams have historically been just as good of an option if the player seeks out college recruiting opportunities. Do the best fit for you and be happy.

They can bail anytime they want if it gets too bad.

Thornz Asylum teams aren't appreciably different from last year. Same thugball, same bootball, same rec-level mentality. Fortunately for them they're playing in a rec-level league so they won't "look" horrible by comparison.

Thornz Asylum won't be great even for the "very serious soccer player". Those players need to be on a team with top players, playing top competition, getting top coaching/training. None of that is available at the Asylum.

Ok, so don't worry about these teams, or the players. Nobody needs your negative attitude.

Nobody cares if it's not great. The important thing is for the kids to have fun.

How often have you seen them play? If anything they look like they pass the ball too much at times rather than getting it forward quicker. Certainly aren't overly aggressive teams either.

I have no beef in this but that is important. Gets lost way too often.
