In addition to high school sports, homecoming, high school football games, prom, and the actual education is a waste of time.

Drama, drama and more drama. They have not asked the kids to give up anything other than hs soccer. Any kid that participates in any sports activity, whether high school or club is going to miss some other activity at some point in time. Life is about choices, choose what works for you but please the over exaggeration is unflattering.

look, giving up high school activities is a small price to pay. getting better at soccer and going pro should be the dream of all these girls. and if its not, then that it their problem.

Who wants to give up high school activities?

          Excessive travel.

When do you get to do homework with four minimum required trainings per week plus long weekend travel?

As one of their coaches pointed out nobody will come to your games, a couple people and a dog.

The birth of the ghost student, who is enrolled, but not a part of the school.

That's probably why try outs were disappointing.

They were indeed disappointing our dd was not selected from the masses and had to go back into the local club market charade. I must agree with you.

Agree! The Thorns Academy & Ecnl players will have fun and get to play soccer out of state. Every choice has trade offs and pros& cons. Quit berating kids for their choices and be happy.

It's incredible that the DA is subsidized does anyone think CU & FC PDX will step up and do the same for their membership and pay for all travel, like the Thorns USDA does?

That would be incredible and make things interesting vs the slam dunk for the USDA Thorns program.

Well the question had to be asked, thanks.

My take nope! Which will kill the clubs in the end.

It's a big sacrifice but for a shot at the pros and the $6,000 per year salary it is totally worth it. College can wait.

It took quite a bit of guts to move the needle and move away from the pay to play model. It's about time! Well done, can't wait to see which clubs are willing to step up and invest in the kids. Like you I believe it won't happen, which is unfortunate.

It will be ok. You keep moving forward.

Our club would never do this for the kids even though they are a non-profit in theory and mission statement. Leave it to the private sector to lead the way.
