. . . and if it so meager, why don't they just get out of the business? OYSA doesn't them and they don't need OYSA. OYSA can just hire back Erik and we can all be done with this silly, silly contract.

      Many of reasons:

Because they are trying to be involved in the local soccer world ( even though they incorrectly get creamed by anonymous web boards for not caring about local youth soccer.)

Because they want to find that next home grown

Because the mls makes them participate

Not just on here they get creamed about this stuff . . . and plenty of ways to support youth soccer and find next homegrown without getting creamed. My god, they are generally experts at doing the PR thing.

Comments posted here are about as impactful as a mosquitos fart in a hurricane.

Were the Timbers getting creamed by the Oregonian, with reporters alleging misconduct and having the sources to back it up, that would be one thing.

But anonymous sniping in a chat room that nobody but insiders reads, is irrelevant.

Too dramatic a contrast - Oregonian has already written about this stinky arrangement. All it did was make Merritt grumpy for a day on twitter.

On the other hand, the anti-peregrine posts on here hit a nerve - otherwise you would not respond so thoughtfully.

Some of us have resigned to the fact Timbers will be involved in oysa whether we like it or not (there are bigger problems in the world).

One observation though - the most recent anti-timber posts on here seem to be coming from sca sympathizers pointing out the inconsistency in their treatment and oysa’s embrace of Peregrine. A tale of 2 for-profits so to speak. I am not part of that crowd, although they seem to have hit a nerve.

            Enjoy the lovely evening.

That was just to distract from sca’s misdeeds. We all saw it and understood it for that

Just to bring us all back to reality:

"Dortmund wonderkid, 14, nets six for U19s"

                https://www.espn.com/soccer/borussia...s-six-for-u19s

(He's actually an 04, not an 05, but were he in the US he would be entering high school this fall as a freshman).

Another 14-year-old, this one an actual 05, signs a pro contract. (Though look at the picture--he is taller than the coaches and looks to be sporting a stache...)

I'd love to see a list of who was actually 'cut' from this pool. How many of the top players around didn't even try out? I'm guessing quite a few don't see the value anymore.

Are the top forwards there? Top mids? Defenders? GKs?

                        Thoughts?

Over 90 in this age group tried out. So 50+ cut.
Some TA kids there who did not make it. How many here were in DA last year? Half?

There were about 80 kids who tried out, so about half were cut. I'm not naming any specific players who didn't make it.

Quite a few top players WEREN'T there: From FC, for instance, neither AP nor AK showed up (both of whom I'm fairly certain AREN'T going to TA). Either, I think, would have been picked had they tried out.

Westside seems to be well-represented (given who the coaches are, not too surprising); as is OPFC. One WashT player made the team--given that he lives in Vancouver I think (and isn't an Oregon kid crossing the river, unless I am mistaken), I surprised he's here instead of the Washington ODP pool.

But a lot of the names on the list are unknown to me.

                              Three are from Washington Timbers.
A few from Bend, Eugene, Rogue Valley and 4H as well.
